I haven't had good experiences with Dunlop tires. My last set of SP sport maxx were really good in the rain but I found that toyo T1R's were better in the dry. I recently got to drive a 350z with Michelin PS2's and those were awsome! But VERY expensive. They are a huge leap forward from the Pilot sports that came with the car.

Spliting a matching set of tires

It has been a known fact for as long as the G has been in production, that spliting up an original set of tires for a different brand in the back or front will upset the VDC. Even putting new tires on the front or back and leaving the original (very worn) set will do the same thing. Rule of thumb with the G series.........Keep all tires the same brand and tread design.........don't change just the fronts or rears if the other two tires have a big difference in tread depth. To play it safe, change all tires to same brand and only change two tires if the other two are not signigicantly different in tread depth.

I think this guy nailed it....

I had the same situation today, went to get 4 new dublop dz101, but they only had rears so had them put those on since i had a flat in rear, and on way home the vdc brakes front tires on corners. so far w/ vdc off it hasnt been a problem.

Cant wait til wednesday comes so i can get the fronts on too, once they get them in.

Also, some peeps posts' seemed not so hot on dunlops , but the reviews i read of THIS (dz101) tire seemed very good.

I'll have better judgement once i'm rolling w/ all 4 on.

i have the 101's and they are very good.
put just rears on and had the problem as others.

all 4 are good.
tire is quieter and smoother the pilots. not as good grip and feel but 1/2 the price.

a good tire for the money. not the best but good.

has anyone tried new pilots on the rear only? and if so does the VDC thing happen?

Oh, I checked the tire pressure, ~38 in each.
It would seem that the system doesn't like different tires on the front than on the back.
I've heard this b4 that different tires act differently and have different traction, and mess up VDC.
You need to make all 4 the same.

when the rear traction is higher then the fron then you will push your front end when you turn and that was why you felt your anti brake kicked in. But since you also said that your VDC goes crazy after swapping the rear tires to me that sounds like your rears has not enough tracking from the tires. I think next time you will have to choose your tire wisely becasue sometimes cheaper doesn't mean quality, try to keep the same brand all around the car.

I recently discovered a piece of steel in my rear Pilot. I knew it couldn't be repaired, so I went with 4 new Pilot Sports.

Have no problems at all. Everything works just fine, and boy are the new Pilots quiet, (at least for the time being)

I believe as long as you run the same diameter tire as OEM, you shouldn't have any problems.

Even my winter snow set up is all the same size/front and rear (Same Diameter as the stock rear pilot sports), I never have any issues with the VDC/ABS systems.

I'm just wondering if having 2 different tire types is doing something. I wouldn't think it would make that much of a difference though.
Answer to question yes.

To understand completely, please confirm that you still have the PS up front, and the Lops on the back.

And you weren't advised against doing this by a mechanic?

If by VDC "freakin out" you mean "functioning as the manufacturer intended", I completely understand.

You have two tire compounds, two tire constructions, two tire ages/wear points/tread depths, and two tire designs. Michelin never intended (nor Dunlop either) for their very specific ultra performance (permit me the tirerack terminology, please) tires to be used with those of any other company, or even another type from their own company, for that matter.

My recommendation is this- buy two more Lops for the front.

Cheers,
Derek

uhhh...knock on wood, but..... My car is just fine. I have stock potenzas on my stock 19's up front with pirelli asymmetrico on rear and changed width to 255 everything is running just fine. I was reading some of your other posts about rears locking up i wonder why mine is running so differently from everyone else... i guess its a GOOD thing

btw i have an 05' coupe with the suspension mods on my sig....and the Pirellis are almost brand new (bought used) and my fronts have little tread left making that loud humming noise. Just extra info for someone with more knowledge to figure out wuts up....
