New rear tires, VDC is freakin'
New rear tires, VDC is freakin'
So I replaced my rear pilot sports with the new dunlop tire. They were a good deal cheaper and I'm not pushing the car to max grip or anything so i thought I'd give them a shot. Anyway, after swapping just the rears the VDC seems to freak out going around turns if you are pushing it at all, it will throw on the antilock brake in the leading front tire. If you turn off the VDC the car drives just fine.
I'm wondering if the new tires are a bit larger than the old ones were and the VDC is thinking the fronts are spinning too fast in comparison to the rears. I figure if I get matching fronts this will all go away, but I'd like some input from you guys to see.
Thanks in advance.

Definately the same size, only thing that's changed is the tire brand.
I'm just wondering if having 2 different tire types is doing something. I wouldn't think it would make that much of a difference though.

do the tires have the same speed rating? if the rear's speed rating are lower than the fronts, this can happen.
i have two different types on my car right now. BF Goodrich KDW2s on the rear, and the stock pilot sports on the front. I haven't had any issues.

The rears seem pretty sticky to me, but then again I guess I was getting used to the worn out pilots.

I had this exact problem with dunlop direzza in back + pilot in front
Car was undriveable, unstable and VDC was kiking even on STRAIT roads under acceleration. Rear felt like running on gravel road.
Got back to the garage and changed (and paid the difference...)the rear dunlop for the Toyo Proxes t1r (pilot front, tir rear) and it took only a few days for them to be optimal.
check this, hope it work:

But I will say its possible the Dunlops aren't as good a tire than the other ones you had so they are loosing traction sooner kicking the vdc off.
I do think that putting new dunlop (same brand/model as rear) would solve your VDC problem because the main purpose of the VDC is to detect difference in rotation between the wheels.
Can you find a tire dealer willing to test it? My case of dunlop/pilot, vdc was kiking in the first corner UNDER legal speed limit. (anyway, feeling of the car was bad too, VDC was just a confirmation that something was wrong)
You can also ask your dealer to check the VDC system to see if there is any error codes logged in the car computer?.

When I had this problem, the VDC was kicking WAY before the traction loss/tire scream. when Passing a car with a downshift from 6 to 5gear at 80 km/h the VDC would apply brake...on strait /good condition asphalt....
What I've heard from...........
I have been buying my after market tires from Tire
Rack for years. They seem to think it's not a good
idea to run diffrent tires front/back. That stoping and
cornering are affected. Cheap tires are like cheap
underware, they just don't feel the same!!

Dude, mine still does that. I have front toyo tires and rear bf goodrich and whenever I take turns going semi fast, my car jerks from the VDC. It's caused from the different tread patterns I believe. So we need to get same front and rear tires to avoid that. Even when I turn off the VDC, it still kicks in when pushing the corner.
