I've had mine on for 2+ years and the heat of the engine has not been a problem. In fact the setting accuracy is very sensitve and it stays spot on at the precise setting I want month over month. Your better off putting them in the door and the engine compartment. No one can break into the trunk without a prybar as there is no keyhole or visible latch. Whatever you wanted to save with a shock sensor is gone if the bandit has a prybar.
