damn 350z

so my friend just got a brand new 350z and we decide to go run em tonight. 3 races, and I lost them all. The last one I only lost by half a car length, and the worse I lost was like a whole car length. it was pretty close. Still, im disapointed. I have an 04 AT, with the manual mode, and I have a 1/2 spacer, kn CAI, headers, and test pipes that i just installed today. So is this normal? should i be happy that i ran so close with him. we run even, or even me ahead until third, and that when he takes me. what can i do to give my car more power in the upper gears? I have pulleys going in on tuesday. will thid help close the gap? man, its a bummer to spend plenty of money(relative to me) and still lose to a stock 350.

this is a repost. but im gonna say it again. U should have gotten a 6MT if ur into that kind of driving.
I have ran a lot of modded autos both on the street and on the 1/4 mile track with my back then with my bone stock sedan. I have always pulled on them after 2nd gear. So it is normal.

BTW was he stick or auto?

dumb question but did you turn off VDC when you raced him? In therory, you should've got him, even in Auto mode.

umm you weigh more than he does so i am surprised that you did as well as you did... you should have gotten a 6MT if you are going to be drag racing...

I have to agree that the AT held you back. All that extra drivetrain loss.

If your buddy keep breaking in his car like that, it may not be an issue in the future.

Actually, hard break-in was prefered by many people

Makes no sense.... It's no hidden fact that Automatic 93-97 TT Supra's have faster 1/4 miles times then the MT with skilled drivers do?? You should have raced him with out switching into manual mode which is horrible I never use that.. If you have a MD spacer, headers, and CAI you should have at least been neck and neck with him.. Take your G to a tuner shops put that thing up on a Dyno and get them to work with it. You should not have lost that race..

if he's a manual and you are auto, he's gonna win. your car is heavier, shifts slower, and has less hp at the wheels. kinda sad that all those mods and you are still slower than a stock z. oh well.

An auto G and an auto Supra aren't the samething. The Supra doesnt lose as much power as the G does when it is an automatic. An auto TURBO supra will stay in its powerband, without losing boost when shifting. A MT one will come out of boost regardless when you shift. It's two completely different cars. You can't compare the two....
So which one finally was it? Was the Z auto or stick? I'm pretty sure it had to be 6MT...

i would have gotten a manual, but i didnt have a choice my car was a gift. His car is broken in too, so i guess it wasn brand new. We waited till it was broken in to race. He has a stick, and he knows how to drive that thing pretty well. hes been doing this kinda stuff for a long time. yeah i dunno, it does kinda suck, but i guess it happens. i think i will take my car to the dyno and see what they can do.

hahahaha thats funny, my cousin has a stock z and i have stock g, and we both stay neck and neck, both 6mt's, and don't say he doesn't know how to drive stick because he is the one that taught me how 6mt vs auto is not a fair comparison, their is more than 20 percent drivetrain loss in automatics and less than 16 percent in manual
