Warranty work = 4 weeks at the Dealership
Warranty work = 4 weeks at the Dealership
I took my car in four weeks ago, initially for front brake pads and decided to have them look at the issue of not being able to fill the tank completely and when it does fill, it reads 3/4 tank after driving about 15 miles(common issue w/our cars). They dealer was well aware of the issues, didn't think it would be a problem. Week 1--got a call after 4 days saying my car was ready. Got to Infiniti, it wasn't ready so I told them they would have to bring it to me at work. I get into the car after work and discover: grease all over the seats and on the carpet, the rear seat is not attached and the door sills all scratched up. So back to the dealer it goes for full detailing and replacement of door sills etc. Week 2--I get my car back once again, drive it around that night and realize, that my gas needed hasn't moved. It reads 1/4 tank but takes 19.75 gallons to fill it up. Back to the dealer it goes. They said the new sending unit isn't compatible with my gauge cluster, so they replace the gauge cluster. Week 3--I get my car back once again. Decide to clean it up really good to ride around town. Go to fill up my car...now the needle won't go above 3/4 tank. Back to the dealer it goes. Week 4--I get a call once again stating that my car is ready and the problem was a flap in the gas tank. I have them bring it to me once again. Everything appears to be working, but now I'm wondering do I really want this car. The only good thing out of this is that I got to drive a new M35 for a couple weeks.
Doesn't sound like the car is to blame, more like the dealer. I would go to another dealer next time. I have a story of my own but it isn't finished (yet) so I'll post it once it's done. Yeah, my isn't as bad *knocks on wood* but similar.
You've got me worried. I am having gas tank problems. It all started after they did the gas line recall. After I got the car back I started having the shutter valve problem with filling the tank. After they fixed that my gas guage was reading wrong. After they supposedly fixed the sending unit I still have the filling problem and/or my guage does not read full. At this point I do not know if it is the guage, sending unit, or shutter valve. I don't know how much gas I have! But I know I have some gas because everytime they work on the gas tank the inside of the car smells like gas for a week!
So I will be taking it back again. Any suggestions??

I also had the fuel recall done at the same time. My only advice is to take it back until they finally figure it out. The problems lie in the shutter valve, sending unit and potentially gauge cluster after they replace the sending unit. Good Luck!
Find a new dealer, sounds like they have some not so reliable techs working there. A few simple problems shoulda taken a day or two by any reputible dealer...what dealership was this anyways???

The dealer was Lake Norman Infiniti. I went there because I've already had a bad experience with Infiniti of Charlotte when I first moved here. I just topped off this evening for the first time since I got my car back and DAMMIT, I still can't fill it up completely. I guess it's going back again. I refuse to settle for subpar work when this is supposed to be such a high quality vehicle and dealership. I'll keep you posted.
here's an idea - just live with minor annoyances like the fuel tank issue (i do) so the stealership doesn't rape your car.
trust me, if you saw how the mechanics handled it you'd never go back there. stealreships = absolutely horrible for the most part.
you're a fool to bring it back again for the 3rd/4th/5th/whatever time. one of these times you're going to start finding missing parts when they "forget" to put things back together properly.

True, but it's annoying when you're on the road, have a 1/4 tank of gas and can only put in a 1/4 tank, so I have to stop again just to get in another 1/4 tank. The only reason I'm going back there vs. somewhere else is so that I can keep a trail to document my issues. I don't want to throw another dealer in the mix so that they have an escape goat.
Man I had similar problem. Brought car in about a month ago for the gas tank issue. They said they fixed it. later that night i pump gas it wont go above 3/4 a tank. I brought it back the following day and they held on for about 10 days, I get car back and everything is fine except for 2 days ago when I was washing my car I noticed that my rear bumper was off, I looked closer and it looked like someone pried into it. Theres now a gap between the bumper and fender just makes me wonder if they had to take the bumper off to get to the tank. Taking car back tomorrow so they can look at it
