6MT clutch.strange sound

Ok, so aside from all of the rattles this car has, including the 'pop' sound that was fixed by tightening the rear deck crossmember (which has come back), I'm getting a strange sound when I push the clutch pedal in.

So with the car running and fairly warm, if I am at a stop and push the clutch pedal in about 3/4 the way in I get a strange super-faint gurgling sound. At this point you really have to be listening for it to hear it but it's really bizarre. Any thoughts on what it could be?

I have the '05 6MT with about 18k miles on her. I haven't noticed a difference in driveability or clutch operation but do I need to complete some maintenance? Would a tranny flush help?

Thanks

I have an 05 6MT too. When the car is idling and the clutch is not pushed in it makes a real loud rattling noise. Im guessing it is the throw out bearing? The second you push in the clutch the rattling stops. I dont know if its normal. I guess it comes with driving a manual. Small price to pay though, i love my car!

Yes, when my clutch is not pressed in, I get a rattling noise, but it's not too loud...yet. But when I push it in about 3/4, with the stick in neutral, and move my foot back and forth a tiny bit, I get a strange gurgle.

Man, I'm thinking of switching to Lexus. This stuff is pretty lame. I did test drive the new Cayman S. They really don't make 'em any smoother.

My answer is Don't put in 3/4 ways in and move it back and forth Really, why would you do that anyways with the stick in neutral? I don't see the need to do this... Anyways, yes you should have gotten a Lexus automatic if you plan on doing this to a clutch. Now, speaking of the Cayman, I have been eyeing that car since it came out and that might be the next consideration on my short list of cars I would get in a couple of years.

I guess I'll spell it out for you.

- I have a strange noise coming from my clutch after 18k of normal operation.
- I am looking to see if other G35 6MT owners have experienced the same noise.
- Due to the noise being 'strange' I've attempted to identify the most direct means of recreating said noise. (clutch pedal in 3/4, etc...) Obviously this would not be a common means of operation, but eventually one's clutch pedal will reach the 3/4 mark whether you're depressing it 100% of travel or not. And, if you have an '05, you know it's just silly to depress our clutches all the way to the floor during a shift with the release so high.

Hope that helps Mephisto. It's just a means of troubleshooting. It's really just a series of neurons, synapses, and chemical/electrical responses.

If anyone has had the issue, please chime in. Again, it's quite faint and if you aren't super picky about your car, like I am, you may not notice it. I'm going to take it in soon for a few rattles and this noise. Hopefully I'll get some answers.

Yes, my Neurons are fine. My Synapses are fireing just fine too I have an 05 and I don't hear these noises. Maybe I have to do what you just describe to see if I hear these noises. Then again, let me reiterate what I just said, why do this in the first place (other than to hear the sounds)? If this is one of the few ways to hear the sounds, then I wouldn't worry about it. Now, if you hear the sounds when you press the clutch 3/4 of the way to the floor without moving it back and forth, then yes, I would be annoyed too. What use to annoy me is when I am in gear and the rmp reaches around 3K rpm, and I let off on the gas, I hear a whistling sound. Now, I gotten use to it so I don't pay much attention to it any more. Let us know what that noise is when you bring it in to the dealer.

Your assumption is correct. I first began hearing the sound during normal operation. Depressing the clutch pedal 75%, it would occur intermittently. For increased reproducibility, aforementioned steps may be taken.

I'll let you guys know what I find out.

Thanks again.

Well, I brought it in for the strange noise. The tech said that all of the 6MT transmissions are loud and sometimes obnoxious. He said it could possibly be hot spots on the plate and that he would have to rip the transmission out to inspect it.

The tech is pretty cool so I told him not to worry about it for now. It's not too noticeable so hopefully it doesn't get worse. I also asked him how long the clutch was intended to last for, he said about 20k miles.

Ouch.

The tech may be pretty cool but he's also full of it. I never heard of a clutch that only lasts 20K miles. For christ sake I had a 1994 Probe GT which I traded in at 97K miles and the clutch was still 100% fine.

Talk about a notchy shifter that one makes my G seems smooth as silk.

I get this noise, too. I thought it was just more pronounced because I have a lightened flywheel.

Thumbs up

hmmm yeh my 05 6mT came with a few creaks and pops as well...i know what you are referring to about your clutch it does sound like its gurgling but im pretty sure its the internal disc waiting to move around, especially when clutch is compressed. i also have 19k miles and my clutch was making a popping (clicking) noise when shifting and i started noticing it a few months ago when i got my aftermarket pedals installed through dealer..they never fixed it after the 5 times i took it there so finally after gettin it back 2 days ago they said they are going to replace my tranny!? i need a new input shaft? and the shop foreman said they will drop a new tranny in there because they will be gettin a whole new one in a crate? whatta u guys think about that, i took my car out the dealer because the loaner was pissing me off and i needed to get it dropped and my MD spacer in already at velocity factor so ill hopefully have it back today, as far as my tranny i never noticed any problems...cars goin to the dealer for this nonsense next week....
