dude your rolling diamter wasn't that far off.

stock 215/55/17 are 26.31 in

your 245/35/20 are 26.75 in
and 275/30/20 are 26.49 in

that is more likely the reason why you didn't have any problems. if SEDDON is running the same thing those be the reasons. It doesn't matter the width of the rim. overall that difference would be similiar to like a bald set of tires in the rear and a brand new set you front, since new tires are 10/32 of an inch in thread.

so you didn't/shouldn't get a AWD/VDC light on what so ever or experience any problems correct?

But your diameters were pretty much the same.

The car doesn't care how wide your tires are. You could run 335's out back and 215's up front and as long as the diameter is pretty close you are fine.

Your diameters are different by 0.26" which is pretty close.

Staggered width is fine with AWD
Staggered DIAMETERS are not

Also, i don't agree with the idea of pulling fuses just to run a wheel. We don't exactly drive cheap $5000 cars here. Why try to "band-aid" a problem by messing with your car that way? Either run the right diameter tires or find another wheel setup.

yea i scratched that pulling fuse idea.

people got the light on coupes because they are running the stock tires which are

225/45 (25.97 in) and 245/45 (26.68 in) which is like .71 difference, maybe thats enough to trigger the light, you speedo @60mph, one wheel spins at 61 and one will be spinning at 59.

I don't know the exact threshold that you can run but 225/45 and 265/40 is what i'm going to try to run if i can find out if my rears wont rub if i lower it.

This is a pic of my X with 19X8 fronts w/ 225/45 and 19X9 w/ 245/40. Both are 30 offset w/ a 5mm spacer in the front. I haven't had any issues with the AWD or the TPMS light even though the sensors are still on my stock rims.
The fronts look bigger in the pic but thats just my camera phone throwing it off. The diameter is .2 off but you can't tell the difference and more importantly, the car obviously can't.

Typically, for an ABS system, it's 3-6% before the difference in tire speed will cause the ABS light to go on.

For the AWD system, i would imagine the tolerance should be tighter. If the system is completely mechanically synched when the AWD is in 50/50 mode, then it really can be only 0%. I am just not sure how much fogiveness the clutches on the vehicle have.

More reason to put the effort into matching your tire sizes as best as you possibly can.

I find it a little odd, over the winter i had the TPS light go on when i had a tire at 20 and everything else at 32's but i put the rears track wheels on and no TPS light...

GrocryGettr , what are you dropped on, those look exactly how my rears look with my 265/40 on 8.5 just your is drop to where i want it.

One question that hasn't been answered that i'm looking for is that Z-suspension with my 265/40 in the rear, would it cause rubbbing? I felt around and it looks like i have about 2 inches of clearance all around but if i have people in the rear it might be rubber dub dub

I have '04 Sport Coupe springs on the rear and Z springs in the front.

you guys think i can run 225/45/18 in the front pair with 265/40/18 in the rear ?

i know 235/45 is ideal but i just found a set at a friends house.

Tire Size Comparison

Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revs/Mile Difference
225/45-18 4.0in 13.0in 26.0in 81.6in 777 0.0%
265/40-18 4.2in 13.2in 26.3in 82.8in 765 1.4%

Other than the big difference in contact patches, it seems like a decent gamble.

As long as the TIRE diameters are the same, it doesn't matter the difference in width.
