Re: Uncomfortable drivers seat!!!

I did tell the salesman my concern and he was very disappointed because he thought that he had a sale. I thought the same until I saw this thread. The salesman was aware of the problem but mentioned that it only affected heavy built people. It’s funny how the salesman only told me about this after my decision. I’m not a large person (160lbs) but I’m not willing to take a chance on something this important. I have a very good car now so I’m not desperate for a new vehicle. I plan to see what is available in 2005 so I may or may not be an Infiniti owner in the future.

Re: Uncomfortable drivers seat!!!

You probably already know this from this thread...I am 5' 7", 175 lbs with a 31" waist. I had problems of pain and numbness the first month. Now it is just a little discomfort. I guess that puts me in the "heavy" category. Once again, this seems to affect people of all sizes. Just depends where your leg and the seat controls make contact, etc...

Hi All,
I have attached pictures of the modified seat for "Bohemond". Hopefully he will further comment about his experience after a few weeks of driving after the Mod.

Re: Uncomfortable drivers seat!!!

Called Infiniti Consumer Affairs last week. They agreed that it was a problem and that there was a TSB. I called my local Infiniti dealership and spoke to the Service Manager. He said bring it in Monday, but as far as he was concerned, there was no TSB. Today I called him. (3-23-04) I asked the status of the car. He said that his technicians spent over 2 hours looking for a TSB. (that's a lie) I immediately called Consumer Affairs and they said that they did have record of my phone call and that it was discussed that Infiniti said that there is a TSB, however, they would not be able to give me that #. They also said that a Infiniti Specialist would be calling me back tomorrow morning to discuss this. I am ticked as my right leg is numb everytime I drive. I even noticed it in the loaner G35. This is crap.

DO YOU HERE THIS INFINITI?

Yeah you do, because I made you aware of this website and this topic. FIX IT!

Re: Uncomfortable drivers seat!!!

The # is ITB03018 "Improve Driver's Seat Comfort"....It did not help very much in my opinion. Good Luck. I am currently talking with Infiniti Consumer Affairs again about this and other problems I am experiencing with this car. At times I am beginning to regret my purchase. Then I drive it on a twisty road and feel just a little bit better.

Re: Uncomfortable drivers seat!!!

I have also asked my dealer about a TSB on 3 separate occasions. Each time they told me that they would look and see if there was one. Haven't found one yet. I am very hesitant to do this "fix" because it adds more padding by the seat controls. That might, and probably will, put more pressure on my leg. Infiniti needs to step up and correct this problem before it causes permanent damage to someone's body.

Re: Uncomfortable drivers seat!!!

I have been following this post since g35Mark started it back on 9/22/03. Shortly after I got my 2004 G35 Sedan I noticed my right leg aching on the lateral aspect of my thigh. This continued to get worse in spite of varying the seat's position and attempting to slide away from the ride-sided controls. Finally after driving in the car for 6 hours sitting on a stadium cushion to try and stay away from that right side and my leg still aching I decided something had to be done. If Infiniti wouldn't do anything I had to try something. So I took out the seat just like g35Mark did and found those stupid brackets that support the seat controls. I cut off the center bracket just like g35Mark had done (this bracket is the one that is nearest your leg) and bent the 2 brackets where the control switches panel attach to out away from the seat. My 2004 Sedan seat also had 2 additional "loop" brackets on either side of the control switch panel attachment brackets and I bent those out also (I believe these brackets function as shapers for the leather seat cover). I trialed these modifications while I had the seat out of the car and noted that the back switch control bracket was not close to my leg and by bending the front control bracket out I now had clearance the entire length of my thigh. The next day's drive to church and back (about 15 minutes each way) was a world of difference. But as g35Mark has said this may just be a temporary fix and the pain will return. All I know right now it is 100% better and I will keep you informed of my progress.

Re: Uncomfortable drivers seat!!!

Thanks for posting and please post pics if you can and keep us updated. I just had my G in again for rattles and told them the seat still hurt - they just added more padding and now it is MUCH worse. My right foot was going numb in the 40 minute drive home. If I don't get satisfaction soon I am selling or trading this POS for something that doesn't cause me pain just from the simple act of sitting in it!

I am so tired of this thing I actually test drove a new Solara last night. Almost everything about it sucks - Except for the seats. I would kill to have the Solara seats in my G!!!!

Re: Uncomfortable drivers seat!!!

GeeSpot-
I did the same mod on my 04 but did not cut the center bracket. I only bent the brackets. Here is the old post with a picture...

I would not recommend bending the curved support at the front of the seat away from your leg. I did and all it did was stretch the leather too much. I had to bend that one back a little. It's been over a month now and the seat is more comfortable. But now the center is settling in and I now just barely feel the control bulge. GeeSpot, let me know if you want more info.

Re: Uncomfortable drivers seat!!!

I've been talking with Tom at Aviation Design in Camarillo, CA, pretty much think this is the way to go, he's going to give me some more head room for autocrossing too,

I think I'll try and get Infiniti to reimburse me, althought I'm sure that will be a very slippery slope to climb...

Re: Uncomfortable drivers seat!!!

That was my fear, that adding padding would make it worse. Depending on how big you are, maybe they can take some of the padding out. I feel that If I had some of the padding removed, it would give my leg a little more room. My problem is more of a discomfort than an actual numbing pain....

Re: Uncomfortable drivers seat!!!

I also would like a more comfortable seat. I do like the Coupe seats there is more support and just feel more snug is there anyway to put the coupe seat in the sedan or take the externals for the coupe seat and put them on the sedans seat. are the two seats exacly the same except for the externals and if so would it be possible to make that swap?

Re: Uncomfortable drivers seat!!!

Hello guys/gals.
I just recieved my 04 sedan on Monday.
I so far have not had any pain...but...I am 5'7 130 lbs....so I know I don't fit into that "heavy" category.
Buttttt..... I use to drive a 95 3000GT and had left leg pain and numbness...got rid of the car and that solved my problem...but prior to me selling the car, I went to a dr. about it..he told me I have a compressed disc and a (I am vocabulary challenged so bare with me....hehe) "berr sight ****" or tists...if you say it fast...I am sure you can firgure the word out...they put me on rellafin, heat and told me no long sunday drives...well from the drugs and lack of sitting, it went away...so maybe you guys might want to check this out for those of you who are not on the "heavy" side...it might be something different...just a suggestion...oh...and stop laughing...hehehe
