Thumbs up More KYB info

Lumpia,

I talked to a Tire Rack salesman today he said that these are a new and separate part number and they are not available yet but they are taking orders and guarantee fitment.
Manufacturer Part #: 341380 - Left front
Manufacturer Part #: 341379 - Right front

Can someone check if this is a different part number than for the sedan? I will go look around too.

Hope springs eternal.

Thanks,
Scott

Cross reference KYB OE replacement shocks

I found this on a google search on the part number. it shows KYB AWD fitment for the 05/06 X.

INFINITI G35
2005-06 AWD Right Hand 341379 344492 SM5482 SB103 SB108
Left Hand 341380 344492

344492 are the rears.

when someone gets the part fitted up, email me brennon@bio-sim.com or pm me, I would like to see!

I still have an extra set of OEM struts, SPC camber kits, H&R Yello sports.... decisions...

These are not much cheaper than the oem fronts from rick@riversideinfiniti. I never dealt with KYB, are they better than oems because it's an oe replacement not performance.

Seddon,

Yep too bad they are not the gas adjust models. Those are good shocks.

It would be nice if we can find a Mechanical Engineer or Automotive Tech to talk to the KYB designers to figure out what changes KYB made compared to the Infinity specs like maybe a longer travel between min/max. That would help to solve the wear out problem. Valving is probably a little more agressive... I hope. But I am no suspension guru.

Generally KYB is a tier 2 after Koni, and Bilstien, but not a Tier 3 like Munroe.

Well I retract my statement. So who is going to be the first to buy them. As of right now I am tired of buying suspension parts.

I just got a set of front struts shipped for 299.99 from rick. You can get front AND rear with mounts shipped for less. Not hating on rick, he gave me a way better deal compared to the local dealerships. I'm sure these have been designed in mind for lowered cars versus the factory for factory ride high.

KYB shocks email exchange with Customer Support

All,

This reads backwards like an email thread. I will post my thoughts and opinions in another post.

Key info here is the KYB shocks are the same dimentions but a higher valving rate.

----------------------------------------------------------------

I would not recommend lowering. The shocks will break, and you'll end up being frustrated at KYB. We matched the OEM dimensions. As I said earlier, the results will be early breakage without warranty just like the oem units.

Thanks for the reply,

So can I take 20 or 30 mm out of the suspension and not destroy the shocks?

Thanks for your time,
Scott

Scott,
I understand the issues you are facing with oem, but the same problem will exist with KYB regardless of our damping rate increase. There is only 98mm travel on the stock suspension. You simply cannot take 51mm away without destroying the shocks.

Sorry,
Tim

Subject: Questions about 341379 & 341380

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear KYB,

Hi, there are a bunch of folks that own INFINITI G35x AWD Sedan cars that are lowered J, I would like to know if these shocks are more tolerant of a lowered suspension than the OEM units? Also, Why are the KYB units better than OEM?

The favorite set-up is H&R springs (PART#: 53036 ) made for the RWD Sedan, which drop the car about 2 inches. Some folks go lower but the Infiniti shocks don’t work right. Most folks do a camber /caster adjusters aftermarket A-arms and control arms, with the H&R springs. This is my planned set-up.

Please reply and I will post on this thread. Seriously this thread has been running since August 2006 and you are the only vendor that offers 3rd party dampers that we know of. Yeah!

OK, here is my opinion. This exchange summarizes the main drawback of using lowering springs. You take away travel. -- And you have a mismatched spring travel with damper valving. H&R helps to solve the reduction in travel b/c they are progressive. And a more agressive damper helps to match the more agressive spring so you get a "reasonable" compromise. Next question is what is a what other cars have around 47MMs of suspension travel? So I will look around and collect some reasonable comparisons.

Another idea is to use custom rubber spacers between spring mount and spring, to limit the drop amount of drop from 51MM to 20 or 30.

Another idea is to use air bags and only max out the lowering when the car is parked.

Those are ides for today... I remember that you covered most of this in the thread and I am mostly summarizing.

Laters,
Scott

I've been lowered on the Eibach prokit since March 05. My rear is now making a clumping type noise when I go over bumps. I think my rear passenger shock is gone. I am trying to decide what to replace the rear shocks with. Tokico D-Specs are pretty expensive and only rears fit.

GR-2 are only just that. OE replacements, they do nothing to help lowered cars at all. It just gives us another option in term of price shopping but thats it. We need aleast the AGX line, they are adjustable shocks that can with stand a VERY SMALL drop. overall from back in the maxima days, gr-2 ride a little harsh compared to OEM, tokico blues are very much like OEM if they do make them.
