G35 Sunroof Shattered HELP

so im walking towards my car only to see that my sunroof is shattered into a million pieces. some kids around said that someone threw something out of their window and it hit my sunroof. to top it off it was raining for the past 3 days in NY and water seeped through and came into my interior and somehow got into my side panels. i taped a plastic bag on it but since it was raining the tape got wet and the bag flew away. GRRRRR anyway i need to know the best way to get a new sunroof. dealership is talking about 700 dollars. i cant afford that. any advice? theres one sunroof glass selling on ebay for 150 dollars but i want to know how hard would it be for me to install the new one? is it held by screws or would i need to take it to a auto glass shop so they can glue it on or something? anyone have a sunroof lying around? lol please gimme some advice thanks.

I believe your best bet is to find a glass assy/ or just glass in some auto junkyards

in the case that you are going for only glass, make sure the window frame on your car is still okay. Then, I believe you would have to take it to some auto glass place to have them install it for you

Moreover, you can also shop around in auto glass places to see if they sell glass for our sunroofs

Don't know if this works, but you might want to call body shops, perferably, ones for Infiniti. I was talking to a tech at the body shop I took my car to and he told me that the parts that they replace or get are normally thrown away or sold at pennies on the dollar. One guy told me he was ordered by the Insurance company to replace the headlight of an M which had no damage to it. It was $800 for the headlight. He showed me the replaced headlight and challenged me to find anything wrong with it. There are these internet junk yard guys that goes around buying them and selling it on ebay. Well, that headlight was sold to an Internet Junkyard for $50. In short, see if you can catch a break with one of those guys. GL.

$1000 for glass???!?! That's insane! Had my windscreen replaced a couple of times and it only cost me $238 the last time including labor.

If you can get it done for $800 w/ parts, you're getting a deal! It was $1500 to do mine after it shattered for no reason going 70 MPH down the interstate. Luckily, I have no deductible glass insurance through MetLife, so it cost me $0.00 out of pocket. Best $75/year insurance rider I have ever purchased. They already replaced 2 windshields too. This G is a rock magnet!

And no, this is not something you are going to install yourself. No way in hail. I saw what the tech had to go through to get all the glass pieces out of the headliner so it wouldnt rattle and buzz me forever. There are side curtain airbags in there that cannot be fooled with. If you do and it goes off, you will have a hot bag in your face. Unpleasant, unless you're into that kind of thing. LOL!

No insurance, and no desire to pay $1500? Report it stolen and abandon it. At least then you can use your regular deductible.

Is that your comprehensive deductible? Did you check to see if you have full glass coverage?

commiting insurance fraud is a serious crime...i would never ever do it just because i cant afford the deductible....lol...it sounds even more stupid when its just a damn sunroof......take that as bad advice.

LOL!

This thread rules - my windshield is crappy, has one little chip but lots of little marks on it that looks like it got sand blasted, little tiny dots that make it harder to see clearly through it. Now that I know (thanks to a call to my insurance agent) that my glass deductible is only $100 I will get that **** replaced soon.

Thanks

Is there no water damage? Your electrical is not affected in any way?? I think it has to be a broader claim then the simple glass replacement.
