Is it normal for dealer to scratch rims?

I took my car to the dealer last weekend for an oil change and to fix window rattles. The service rep offered to rotate tires but I declined because I had low miles. Well, that night I am putting gas in the car and look down to find a nasty gash around the lug nut of the wheel. I inspected the other wheels and found damage on all wheels around all lug nuts. Most of the damage was fairly minor but there were two obvious bad spots.

I called the service mgr about it and he was going to call me back after looking into it. He never did, which pissed me off, so I just went down there in person. I talked to the service rep and showed him the damage. He mentioned that there was not much room for the air tools on the rim and asked me what I wanted. I thought he would be more apologetic but he acted like it was no big deal and I was the only one to complain. He said something like it's my car so if I want it fixed, they will fix it. I'm sure he typed in the computer that I am a 'special' customer and never to touch the wheels again. Fine by me if it means my wheels won't get busted up.

Am I being a little b!tch? I hate being that uptight, difficult customer that has to have everything perfect. However, it kills me to look down at those wheels to see gouges done for no reason by the dealer. If I asked for a tire rotation or brake check and got a few scratches, I would probably let it go even though it would bug me. Still, you should expect more from a dealer like Infiniti, right?

Nope. I actually have them (or anyone doing work) specifically note that there is NO DAMAGE anywhere on the car. I'm a dick about it, but no one cares about your car like you do.

after hearing the stories on this board about dealers messin up rims and stuff...i took a pic of each wheel and walked around with the rep and talked to him about each wheel. told him to becareful with the rims and to not touch it. after the car came back from service...the rep told me everything is fine and your rims were not touched. so i went to my car and inspected each rim...i dont trust these S.O.B.'s...and i found a freakin dent in the rim. asked the guy and he said that it wasnt touched. showed him the before pics...(i took it when he was standing there and left the camera on his desk)...and yea...i was right. the rep talked to the service guy and they said they accidentally hit the rim when they pushed in the lifts. service guy thought it wasnt that big of a deal so he didnt tell anyone.

so yea...always assume that the dealer will f-u over and take all the proper precautions...

oh yea...i got refunded the cost of the rim, gas money, and mounting costs. wanna know what i did with the extra rim?

it holds the hood up now...hahah!

I don't blame you one bit for complaining. I recently had my wife drop the G off for the fuel filler recall and picked it up later that day. I told her to give the car a walk around, make sure there was no body damage or what not. She forgot to look over the wheels though, so when I get home from work , I have a look see for myself. What do I find? A ****ing curb rash about 16" long on the driver rear wheel. I was livid, standing there at almost 2 am looking at my car that had like new "coupe wheels" when it was taken in for some recall. I made a trip to the dealer around 8 am, was not very polite and at first the advisor was like we got a guy that can fix that. I told him that was absolutely un acceptable, the car didn't come in here looking like that and I'm not going to have some joe smoe "repair" the wheel. He told me well there are curbs in the parking lot, I said does that mean drive over them? There are people out here too, its ok to hit them. I told him this was completely reckless and the wheel will be replaced. I had a new wheel within a week. The most ironic thing, was a buddy of mine took his M3 into the same steelership (BMW) service area about a month before. The tech curbed his Volk wheel, which Volk want make just one of, they require at least 10 wheels to be purchased before they will even consider making them. So he still is messing around with that ordeal. Guess I will just start putting steelies on before I go into the dealership for any reason, because those monkeys obviously don't give a **** about others property.

My dealer scratched both driver side rims on my 04 running it through a car wash with a track. As soon as my service advisor saw it, he pointed it out to me, grabbed the manager and they paid to have them repaired the next week. They break, they buy.

When you guys take it in...Make sure to have the service writer to do a walk-around...That gives them the impression what kinda of customer you are..IE...Picky and loves his car...Request them to break the lugs by hand and tighten but torque wrench...That will save you a lot of trouble...Some techs don't care so they use aire tools that damage the rims..Most customers don't care...Some writers will write on the Work order to be careful so the tech will be caution or they will give it to someone that knows how to work on cars

Of course its normal, I think the hill billy that use to work on my car at infiniti intentionally caused damage a few times. This is not one of those times, he mainly like to damage my interior pieces. Had the aluminum trim around the shifter replaced twice.

Heres my favorite piece of their work

this happend to gryder05 ..not once but twice at the same delaer...i dont mean your dealer i mean the one he took it to...they replaced all 4 rims one time and 1 rim the next time..a waste of money if you ask me..all the delaers need is a rubber outside lugg nut bit..which are very common for people who have soft and $$$ rims
