Dent on Hi/Fog housing

I just noticed something peculiar about my headlights the
other day. When looking down at the top of my headlights,
I noticed a small dent/impression at the top of the
Hi-beam/Fog light housing. One side looks like it has a
crack coming off the dent. Looks like maybe the heat from
the Fog lamps has melted to uper portion of the housing.
Does anyone else notice something like this. I'm going
to point this out to the service advisor next oil change.

Re: Dent on Hi/Fog housing

Come on guys! Take a look at your fog/Hi beam housing and
tell me if the housing is a smooth convex curve at the top of
the housing. Mine has a dimple on both.

Not exactly sure what you are talking about without a picture, but there is clearly nothing abnormal about mine. Get it looked at.

I think your talking about a small "O" shaped circular dot on your headlight housing? Its normal if thats what your talking about... I have one too.

Pestilence,

It's not a dot. It is a depression in the convex surface. One
side has a crack comming off of it.

I think you just answered your own question there.

If you want confirmation, it sounds hard to describe in words. I think you should either post a photo, or take it to the dealership and compare it yourself to a new one. Then bring it to the attention of your service advisor.

Re: Dent on Hi/Fog housing

I'm told by my family members that I will be getting a digital
camera for Christmas. I don't have one at the moment, so
I must describe things without pictures. I did look at a G
in the parking lot the other day, and it's headlight housing
was perfectly convex and smooth. I was just wondering
if I was the only "lucky" G35 sedan. Man, I hate taking my
G to the dealer. Even when I ask them to NOT wash the car,
they put their mitts all over it.

Re: Dent on Hi/Fog housing

Went to Infiniti today and they ordered 2 new headlamps for
my G35 sedan. Apparently, either the Hi beams or Fog lights
melted he housing directly above the bulb. The service tech
had never seen this before. Lucky me! Also lined up the
30,000 mile service to be done when they replace the
headlamps. Infiniti wants $430 to do the 30K mile service.
That sucks!

Re: Dent on Hi/Fog housing

No way! The melted part is inside the headlamp housing.
I'm talking about the curved part directly above the hi/fog
light inside the clear cover.

Re: Dent on Hi/Fog housing

The dealer installed 2 new headlamp assemblies today. The
service advisor called me up and explained what happened.
When the took to old ones off, they found evidence of a
blue bulb. The previous owner, it was a lease, apparently
replaced the stock bulbs with something else. Those
"other bulbs" melted the housing. Before returning the car
on lease and me buying it, the bastard replaced those
"other" bulbs with stock ones. Lucky me, the dealer decided
to ignore the evidence and charged me nothing. Whew!
Now I just have to pay for those rotors and pads!
