306 HP seems enough to me, if the torque's there. I just wish Infiniti would give it a 6-7 speed AT instead of the 5.

Well, i think it's a smart market strag...With the gas prices going in be an issue when people buy their next car it's going to cut into their sales if they can't sell the new G35 with good gas mileage...Not everyone thinks about gas being a problem when they buy the car...But most families do and if they miss those people then that's sales that they loss...Some might say if your going to buy this kinda of car you should not worry about gas...Well, if gas prices hit 5 bucks a gallon...Those who say that before will start to feel the pinch...My 2 cents

Yes it most certainly will. I just used that number as an example. Remember the 02 Altima with its 240 HP? Put a little hurting on the Maxima didn't it? Then Nissan had to bump up the Max's HP also or it would have lost sales to the more powerful Alti.

306 seems a bit underpowered to me if you consider the competition and expect people to trade in their existing cars on it. I can take or leave the new style. I'm assuming since it's got a higher redline, so they've probably modified the gearing. I don't think our cars are geared well, so that may be a significant improvement.

Still, if that car's not running low 5's, I'm going to keep mine, buy the body kit, some wheels and do plenum spacer/exhaust. Maybe I can get FI. Anybody know if there's a problem running a supercharger or turbos with a 6 speed? Of course, a used M45 sport is always an option.

BTW - the Mustang only has 300 hp, but it's loaded with torque and runs to 60 in 5-flat. I want 5 seconds, dammit! We'll get smoked by the 335i with turbocharging. Of course that car is going to cost $50K.

Man, that's right, even the previous 4.6 with 260 HP had some bad torque, owned one of that era, a 2000 GT vert.

I wouldn't get too caught up in the numbers game

Power and torque specs are useful, but until we all get to drive a production unit, why not give the Infiniti planners the benefit of the doubt on doing what it takes to keep their hard won sports sedan crown. I know the product planner of the new G35 and I've driven a '07 G35 prototype. I was completely impressed. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think most current G35 owners will be left wanting in the performance department by the '07. I drive a 540i (my second one), and that G35 proto-build was just a total blast to drive (the 540i is a bit of a pig). Given the horrible reliability of this BMW, Infiniti will probably pick me up as a new customer with the new G35.
