Spark plug change?

I want to change the plugs, since I have some new NGKs for the old VQ laying around. I figure at 54k it cant hurt to do.

I am too lazy to pop that engine cover off, but is it just going to be six coils staring at me? can I just yank those off and pull the plugs out? will I have to remove anything else?

The plug change on my alti was gonna be a pain, so I figure I should put this 60 bucks to a good cause.

You gotta take off the engine cover then pull off the upper and lower plenum's to get to the plugs.

don't know what you're talkin' about ... here are the instructions from the service manual:

1. Remove engine cover with power tool.
2. Remove air cleaner case and air duct (for ignition coil of left bank side).
3. Move aside harness, harness bracket, and hoses located above ignition coil.
4. Disconnect harness connector from ignition coil.
5. Remove ignition coil.
CAUTION:
Do not shock it.
INSTALLATION
Install in the reverse order of removal.

ok nevermind. I just went out to my car and looked at it. Just take off the intake and the right side should be fully accessible. You'll have to move a few wires that are bolted down to get full access to the left side but that shouldnt be a problem. You should be able to change the plugs in less than 40 minutes if you know what you're doing.

I've been considering swapping mine out with some colder copper plugs to reduce pinging... any opinions on that?

Copper plugs will retain less heat, so 'downgrading' to a copper plug has its benefits in a ping prone car.

If you swithc to copper, you need to change them every 30k, or the gap will get a little nutty.

Change out your plugs for NGK PLFR6A-11's

That is the oem plug but 1 step colder. Just about all FI installs call for these plugs. If you still have pinging try to gap them a little less ~32 (stock is 44).

I thought that was only a turbo concern?

If you read the service manual it states cooler plugs can be used if the engine experiences spark knock or you do extended highway driving. Infiniti specs three spark plug types for the VQ35DE as OEM.
