Costco Auto Insurance

Has anyone tried Costco auto insurance? If so, would you recommend it?

I'm looking for good insurance with decent rates. Costco is quoting me $1,500 a year (for G35) -if I swith my parents' pathfinder with G35 sedan. I'll have my dad as primary driver, otherwise its too expensive (I would pay double if I was by myself). I'm 24, Los Angeles.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Your age and location are huge negatives against you
regarding insurance. Good luck!

Re: Costco Auto Insurance

I'm in a similar boat. 7 months from turning 25, living on the other coast in NY. Parents live 1000 miles away, on some local policy not offered here. A new policy is crazy expensive.

My best quote was with Traveler's Insurance, at around $1500/year, but I've been told that you get what you pay for with them. I sucked it up and got State Farm, which was actually cheaper than Geico.

Anyone think our insurance would be cheaper if there was no VDC switch (always on)?

I think it would take a 220hp detuned engine to drop our insurance rates. The problem is that these cars are labelled as "high performance vehicles" in the eyes of the insurance companies, just like Corvettes and Mustang GT's and such.

Re: Costco Auto Insurance

There are tons of variables in auto insurance pricing. You need to check as may companies as you can.
I am also in L.A., but a lot older than you!
I found the Costco Insurance (which I think went thru American Express) was not a very good deal for me. I found Mercury and AAA (Auto Club of So. Ca.) to have the best rates in my case.

If you can stay on your parents policy, that is always going to be the best deal for you.

Re: Costco Auto Insurance

i switched to Costco and wish i never did. they do not cover for diminished value and it is specifically written into their policy. caveat emptor.

they were about $350 per 6 mo. cheaper than AAA or 21st century and this is in SoCal. you get what you pay for.

Re: Costco Auto Insurance

Try a company called Wawanesa. They are pretty cheap if you have a good driving record. They will definitlely have the lowest rates on the G, and are a reputable company. PM me if you need their contact info.
