You could also go new GTO and modify the hell outta that ($32K new roughly w/ the LS2... same engine in the current base Corvette... 400 HP/395 tq... and easily moddable.)

RX-8... S2K... Corvette... GTO... S4... M3... there's a ton of new and used cars for under $40K that would give a good fight or even rip the STi/Evo a new *** in a race, especially if you modify. Some of those (such as the RX and S2K) would be better suited for the twisties unless you did some serious engine modding though... others, such as the GTO would be best for straight line without noticable suspension work... and then there's the S4's, Vette's, etc which, stock or modified, would dominate most cars in the twisties OR straight line.

deadbolt, it sounds like you're still in that boyracer phase. Please stick with the STI or Evo. The G35 does not deserve to be treated like a common rice rocket and you seem mostly concerned with racing your buddies. It's almost like you're answering your own question. If you want to compete with Evos and STIs, then buy an Evo or STI. Simple.

If you want a classier car, get a G.

If you want a car that's easy to make loads of power with, get an EVO.

If you want handling, get an STi.

One correction... swap that STi and EVO... STi is fastest, EVO better handling... both easily moddable to compare perfectly w/ eachother.

G35 is quicker than the 325 and 330... 335 or M3 only if you're going for performance. G35 > 3 series (minus M3) though...

1 st timer

may i chime in here. being my 1st post ill dive in the shallow end. currently i have a 35 sedan, sti, and turbo civic. unless you are willing to tear apart your engine you will never! threaten a lightly modded rally car in a straight line. and the first curve will be way worse. having said that you can never replace displacement, and the vq certainly has that.replace the rods and pistons and katie bar the door. BIG torque but at what cost? the rally breed is stunning as a overall package light, balanced, personal preference between the 2 daily driver the sti is better and not likely to leave the U.S.in a year. oh yeah had 2 evos and two previous wrx. none compaired with the sti. you can make the sedan very nice and stomp most lightly modded cars IF your willing to spend the cash. i pick both. course best is a ls1 f-body and a g35. but a decent rally car is a absolute terror on a curved road. course7000 miles on a set of tires is routine with them. eeek! my .02$

Just Get a g35coupe unless you need the room. Or just get a 300c fast car and room.
