Should I Look At the 07 Sedan Or Something Else?
Hello all,
Thanks to Google and some Car and Driver articles, I've taken interest in the G35 and this forum. As my first post, little bit about me: I'm currently in college, driving a 2005 Grand Cherokee, and looking for something new. Take a look:

At this point, the V6 in the Jeep is not cutting it. I want something more fun to drive, something that makes me smile when I get in and not just when I walk up to it. I love how my Jeep looks, but the interior is blah and the thing is a pig to drive around; it doesn't give me any kind of rush. Its fuel-saving tendencies and all other econo-drive properties prove for a mediocre driving experience.
So, what I've come to ask is if the 07 G35 Sedan is right for me, or if I should be looking elsewhere? My key points right now are for a nice interior, something fun and fast to drive, but still with decent MPG and price range. By the way, I'm paying $230 a month right now for my Jeep, and I could swing up to $300 I think. I'm not so much into the street racing, rice rocket crowd, which is why I'm liking the G, but if one is acting like an asshat on the starting line, I want to show him his squirrels can't pedal as fast as my engine can churn.
Can anyone help me out, tell me if I'm looking at the best hardware out there, or if I should look elsewhere? Also, if you do think this is the piece to run with, please let me know what are you paying (gas, insurance, monthly, etc) and what kind of driving you do, and how the G35 is good for those conditions.
Thanks a lot, hope to enjoy the forum a bunch!

First off, welcome to the board bro. From what you described, I think the G35 would definitely suite you and it would put a smile on your face guaranteed. Where I think you will have a problem is in the price you are willing to pay. To get an 07, you will need to put a fair bit of money down to get your payments down to $300/month. If you are not able to put a good chunk of money down, than perhaps you could look at a used G35. Good luck with your purchase.
well first of all nobody can tell you what car is right for you
you and only you can answer that question
as for the rest of your question here you go
i pay 350 a month for mine
it has all the hardware (navi, heated seats,sun/moon roof, power everything, etc) (mines a coupe)(im buying not leasing)
i get about 20 miles to the gallon
and pay 100 dollars a month for insurance
hope that helps

I bought an '04 G sedan 2 months ago.Had a Grand Caravan before it.lol.
And the '07 G's are even hotter and more rifined.
You would not regret your purchase, ever.
On the Sedan my insurance didn't go up 1 nickel.
Mileage good(definatley better than the Jeep,I know I had one)as long as you don't drive like MadMax all the time..
Rubber side down brother.

My car is a lease on an '05 G35x and it cost about $12,000 per year for gas, insurance, payments and maintenance. One year in I'm adding $1200 to that for repairs. I'd say it's a fine choice but seeing as how you are in college why not get something more cost effective? The less expensive alternative to my G35 has always been the Mazda3:

It's a really classy car and an unbelievable price... If you want something bigger and more powerful (and undoubtedly more expensive) than the G35 is it.

Funny you should suggest the 3... In the new Motor Trend, which I bought to read the G35/330 face-off article, they have a write up on the Mazdaspeed3, a 263 HP four door hatchback for $23,000 est. The only problem I have with it is that big Mazda symbol up front. Plus Mazda is a Ford product.
Thanks for the replies so far; I hope they keep coming. The thing is that I know a bunch of other options that I could go with, but I get compliments on my Jeep every week, whether it be that people love the wheels or just that the whole thing looks good, and it's a classy looking whip. Black does that. I want to make sure that I'm not stepping down into a annoying car. I want something that gleams with class and upper echelon craftsmanship.
I know no one can tell me what car to get, but owners sure do make it easier to decide.

Mazda Dealerships suck... My nephew bought a brand new mazda 6 and after 800 miles the manual tranmission would lock up after it was parked and would not let you put it in any gear (happen about 20% of the time), he took it back and they accused him of street racing it and required that he pay them to check the problem out before they could say if warranty would cover it.... He took it to 2 other Mazda dealerships that were within a hr. drive and they both told him the same thing.. Mazda has a crappy policy when it comes to young drivers.... So I would definatly not recommend Mazda unless your an old fart...
If you want a classy looking upscale car that can haul some booty and is fun to drive then the 07' G35 is definatly the ride... But if you want to save some money you might look at the new Altima, it costs less and is a little bigger inside... Only other car I can think of is the IS350, but its smaller then the G35... So if your over 6' you will defintaly want the G35

The G is a great car for the money but I am positive a lease would put your payment over $425 unless you put down a fat down payment.
As for the quality of mazda, My inlaws have an MX6 that has been trouble free. slagging it off as a ford product is kind of like calling the kettle black. Jeep is a chrysler product that has been notorious for grenadeing transmissions and lack luster fit and finish.

I've just never liked Fords. Being a fan of Chevy trucks means you don't like Ford trucks, or any of their siblings. I'll take an Aston Martin, but that's it. Maybe a RR Sport.
6'2".
How fat a down payment are you thinking?
What do we think of the Maxima? I like the G35 better though, so I guess it's irrelevant.

My GF has a new Mazda3 hatch. It is a nice car and a lot of fun but nothing like my G. Just a completely different world.
If I could get any new sedan it would be the new BMW 335i. It will have a lot of power, good looks and if you are nice to it decent mpg. It won't be a cheap car.

seeing the pic of the Jeep makes me miss my old Grand Cherokee, if for nothing else than to haul the dog around in. The puppy gets no love from the G.
$300/month on a 07 G will be hard to get to. I suspect there will be little to no financing/lease deals for at least the first year or two on the new body style.
