CF Ztube

Wouldn't the Carbon Fiber Z Tube lower intake temps, since Carbon Fiber doesn't hold heat like metal?

I think that was the point of making an intake pipe out of cf...

Its for appearance only. At the duct velocities present at 5-6K, the air is only in contact with that 18" long piece for a tiny fraction of a second. The thermal conductance of air is low anyway (the reason for dual-plane glass and fiberglass insulation), so the effect of a CF tube with regard to HP is immeasurable, hence no one being able to prove a difference.

The main thing is to try and draw the coolest air you can in the first place and thermally isolate (MD iso-therm etc) the intake plenum. The amount of heat there is 100X what is present at the intake tube. Again, the CF Z-tubes look real nice though.

CF probably dissipates heat faster than metal... but to a difference where you could not tell by feel

i think it's more of just a carbon fiber look than the whole thing to be made out of carbon fiber.... just like the cf hoods.... most of them still have a fiberglass skin w/ cf over it

Mine is CF with fiberglass on the inside. There is no way the thing is all CF, that would just be a waste of materials. Either way the fiberglass would hold out heat like the CF.

as another poster stated "every little bit counts"... Will you notice a dif? Probably not – possible from dead start… that's why I insulated with Lizard Skin. DaveO did some temp reading and reported stats - he used reflective insulation... I wanted something less obtrusive so researched and found the properties of Lizard Skin not only are sound deadening (nothing for intake) but also thermal insulating... it can be lightly sanded and painted too - which I intend to do eventually (the color of the CF engine cover).
