Can someone who has driven both cars give an unbiased opinion?

How does the '05 G35X compare with the newer Nissan Maxima (sport version i guess) in the following categories (both cars stock, automatic):

0-60 time
Handling
Interior Design
overall aesthetics
Brakes

Anything of importance. I realize this is a G forum, (and the X is what I have), but I was hoping someone who has actually driven or driven in both could give an opinion since I've never actually been in the new Maximas. The only thing I like better on them is their headlights...but that's me.

that might be kinda hard. i mean you are talking 2 different platforms. are you in the market for one? if you are, then i suggest your best course of action is to just go down and take one for a spin. just rely on your instincts.

Oh I'm not in the market for one. I already have the 05 X. I am just sick of hearing my friend tell me that the Maxima and G35 are extremely comparable models and that the Max drives just as well if not better than the G. Just my car insecurities I guess.

Maxima looks ugly, g35 sedan looks beautiful.

How do you compare a ugly girl to a beauty? By comparing capabilities?

RWD > FWD ftw. FWD can't drive "just as well"

you should educate your friend on the differences of both cars. almost worlds apart. but then again, the major differences might not mean anything to him. of course the obvious could be that he has insecurities knowing the difference that do exist.

There are online sources for most of the info you are looking for. Of course looks are subjective but the maxima is one ugly looking ****.

Anyone that says a FWD is "comparable" to a RWD or AWD is pretty uneducated.

6th gen maxima = FWD boat

The G is a better, more well rounded car by far than the 6th gen maxima.

IMO, the 6th gen Maxima is not worthy of the Maxima name. Is too fat and non-sporty. The G35 stops faster, handles better, is faster, and has a "feel" that the Maxima cannot match. I owned a modified Maxima for 6 years. It was a blast and a quick car (14.3s@99mph), but it really can't compare to what the G offers right out of the box.

there really isnt anything the same on the two cars except for the VQ engine which is still tuned differently i believe
maxima is a boat
my buddy drove my car he has an 04 maxima and i have an 03 G and he said my car just feels better, tighter quicker and definitely handles better but the maxi is roomier i think the sound system is a little better stock and it comes w/ projector xenons

coming from a '02 altima v6 worked and getting into a G35 you can't really compare the cars. yes the altima i had was running 13.8's all day but the G has more potential. what i miss about the altima is the big sideview mirrors and the amount of room

Depends on how you use the car. If you just point it ahead and stick to the relatively smooth, straight interstate highways, then your friend might have a point. If, on the other hand, you want to [U]drive[U] your car, and have fun doing it, he doesn`t have a leg to stand on. I know some of you youngsters make fun of the old grannies you see driving a G sometimes, but my 68 y.o. bride said that our TL was a great Ride, but the G35X is a better Drive. Pretty sharp old granny! Probably sharper than your bud, as far as what she wants in a car.

yeah like everyone has said.... maxima is a fwd boat.... i drove the 5.5 gen 2k2 6spd maxima for 4 plus years and the g is so much different and more capable than the max. Despite having a FSTB installed it still understeers way to much compared to my g when the g was stock...

Unless they fixed the wheel hop/torque steer issue with the 6th gen max, it will never compare in the twisties to the g35 for the everyday driver... again, modding potential despite it's small market, the g35 has more aftermarket support....

Platforms are totally different too.... anyway, it is just hypothetical that your buddy just needed to feel secure about his fwd boat purchase by making you feel that your g is inferior or not up to maxima standards....

Also just go race him to shut his mouth up... all this talk is nonsense until you walk the walk....

Performance with some comfort (G) -vs- Comfort with some sport (Max)

It comes down to what you want.

IMO the G is a much better car.
