does anyone else have a notchy shifter? i just passed the 5100 mile mark on my car...and my transmission is still notchy. most gears are usually ok, except for 3rd gear. there is always one notch that really bugs me. will the dealer fix this? POS shifter IMO.

That's how alll good MT's work. There not suppose to be sloppy. Third is the toughest gear to master, but once you have, the click, click, click of the transmission gate is very nice. I have driven alot of MT's and this is one of the best out there. Give it some time. Just by chance did you use to own a Mustang before the G35?

 

I'm surprised you're calling it a POS. Did you think this POS was going to change from when you did your test drive? Certainly how a vehicle shifts is a critical component of the overall experience of any manually trannied vehicle. It should have been a key-deciding factor when you bought your car because - unlike the radio, seat controls, etc. - you have to use it every time you drive.

 

Well I like the notchyness, it gives a more connected and fun feel to the car. No wimpy BMW or Honda trannys here. (Note: The BMW tranny I refer to is the stock 5 speed which is good, but no M3 short throw tranny which is the same as the G)

 

well, i didnt really test drive the car....hahaha at the time i got it, i didnt know how to drive a manual car. after reading the replies, i guess the notchyness is a good thing. was just wondering if anyone else had it...but seems everyone does and its not a problem. thanks guys.

I hope your not learning to drive stick in your G, if so start saving for a new clutch. You should have learned on a Honda first, (easy, soft shifter) and then you would have appreciated the positive feel of the the G shifter.

Ouch, so how much do one of these clutches run?

 

I have no idea, but if I ever have change mine I'm going high performance like a carbon-kevlar. Those should be around 600-700 bucks.
