Question Anyone else find the HKS loud?

Maybe it's me, but I just put on the HKS rear section (about 1K miles) and I find it loud inside the car when I'm under load, like when going uphill. It's almost annoying, but it sounds great from outside the car and under light throttle or when cruising. Anyone with this muffler, any suggestions?

I don't find mine annoying at all. I actually wish it were louder (somewhere in between the HKS and the Stillen I used to have). I am somewhat surprised you find it annoying inside the cabin. Everyone (even my wife) has had nothing but positive things to say about the sound of my car.

Exhausts are such a personal preference. Sorry to hear it is not working out the way you wanted it to. If it is unbearable I am sure you will have no problems selling it.

^^+1. The coupe middy will cause some droning and do nothing for performance on the '05+ models. I have the OEM middy with the HKS and it's perfect IMO.

Thanks for all the replies. I am also surprised it's so loud. I was expecting it to be perfect. I'm taking it to the shop tomorrow to re-check the install and make sure that nothing is touching the body or whatever. It doesn't seem to be that kind of vibration but we'll see. If all looks good, I will probably reinstall the factory one and put the HKS up for sale . BTW, I am running the factory midpipe based on Chico's recommendation.

yeah occasionally i find mine to be pretty loud on inclines, but only in certain rpm ranges... 2500-3000 maybe? or 1500-2000, i can't remember.

regardless, i just rev it up and ease off the gas to get out of that range and then it's not too bad. certainly the exhaust seems quieter a couple hundred miles later which is nice b/c i'm getting used to it

don't give up. Give yourself some time to adjust to the new sound and the HKS to break in a little more. I know exactly what you mean about the resonance in the cabin under load. You could also try putting dynomatt in the trunk and it should reduce it or eliminate most of it. Dynomat is relatively inexpensive. Give it a shot.

+1 for too loud. I had it on the car for two weeks, and have already removed it because it was too load.

Isn't HKS the most quiet of the exhausts? And it's just the muffler correct? Wow, you guys would hate the Stillen then.

Yeah, I knew the Stillen would be too loud for my taste. I'm gonna try the Dynomat and see if that improves the situation. If not, I'll go back to stock (which wasn't too bad, I just have a bit of the modding bug) and let you guys know it's available.

I also suggest driving your car in manumatic when you're going up a hill or under load....when I get that type of drone (I have the coupe middy though as well as the HKS), I drop it into a lower gear to get the RPM's up (as mentioned above)...just a suggestion. I know what you mean about the sound...I don't mind it when it's nice out & the windows are down, but w/ the windows up & under load, it can get a bit loud...but so far I can live with that. Unfortunately, I got rid of my sedan middy....
