Modified exhaust tips on an 03/04 sedan

I've always felt the exhaust tips on the 03/04 sedan were tucked too far underneath the bumper. I like the design of the OEM tips and they're a good size (3" wide, 2.75" high), but the OEM setup doesn't allow them to be seen. I searched and searched for some aftermarket tips, but nothing impressed me and neither did the prices (~$40+ each). I noticed on the 05+ sedans, the tips are pushed out about 1" further. I decided to take it one step further and push the tips out 2" so that the tips are about 1/8" past the lower edge of the bumper. What I did was drill a 5/16" hole in the exhaust pipe of the muffler, sent a bolt through the pipe and tip, and attached a bolt with a dab of locktite. The tips are now readily seen and look great. I also painted the muffler can flat black.

Yes, my door handles are blacked out. I used high end electrical tape The same tape has been on there for 9 months and people would never know unless I told them.

Looks good, I like your idea of painting the muffler can flat black to match the car.

Nah I think he just moved his stock tips foward, and yes it looks good!

Good idea on the door handles, too bad I can't do it with my blue color.

I don't see much of a difference. Do you have any "before" pics?

Unfortunately I don't have before pics. When you look at this picture, the stock tips would have sit about 1/2" inside the lower bumper edge. You can see the original tip mounting point about 1.5" behind where the tips sit now. On the 03/04, the tips sit only about 3/8" off the muffler.

+1. The '05 OEM tips are ugly IMHO as well. I had a muffler shop cut off those ugly tips and welded nice chrome Borla tips that extend outward to the lines of the bumper. The tips is one of the cheapest finishes Infiniti did on these cars.

My tips now sit fractionally past the bumper.

i see the dif, its not a WOW mod but it does look a bit better, IMO it would look even better if you get some Borla tips like Chico said

It looks a lot better. I have the Nismo bumper on my 03.5 and my muffler tips are tucked all the way in...and it looks like I don't have an exhaust. I've been searching online and found some tips that could work...but as you mentioned at $40 a piece...not worth it! I was going to head to the muffler shop and have them moved out...but sounds like its something that a drill can easily fix.

Great job and thanks for the push to do it myself
