Automatic Tranny Question

Well i have a 03 sedan...and my sister has an 03 coupe..both are automatic..but i noticed that the 03 coupe downshifts by itself when it is in the triptonic mode..but the 03 sedan just reamins on the gear you are on..is there a way i could upgrade it or something so it downshifts like the coupe?..

thanks

um im guessing mine downshifts...but the number on the dash will remain at (lets say 4)..and when you start to accelerate again..it will still be at 4..but in the coupe when you stop it will go back down to 1..and you start all over

In the 03, the number will stay at whatever you last selected, but it will be an auto up to the selected gear - so if you pick 3, it will display 3 even when you stop although it will actually gear down. I have driven a newer loaner and the displayed number actually changes when the gear does. I don't know what year they started doing that.

I think it was mid-year 04 that they started matching the actual gear with the read out.

03's will display what ever gear you have it in, down shift when coming to a stop. From there it will shift back up to the gear you had it in and stay there until you shift up again (say from 3 to 4). Hope that made sense

I don't seem to think so. I think there were reports here on this forum that it was more than just a software upgrade.

I guess I'm used to the way the 04 works, where it is more of a D1, D2, .., D5 rather than a true manumatic. I mainly use it as a limiter when driving through school zones, or if I were to ever drive it through the mountains. But I only drove an 06 for one day, so didn't have a chance to decide if it was actually better (for me).
