Sedan G35mt Raced a Mustang GT.
This is my first post since july... Sorry folks the G35 is my wifes ride.. I own a fairly supped up Prelude. Common, really its both our cars. Her grocery getter is also my Weekend racer (sometimes). I did a 15.6 on my first track run 1month into owning the G35. Any how to the race tonight that I have anticipated for so long, a mustang GT! I had even left the house at 1am just to look for some street action. Its the whole V6 vs V8, 3.5 vs 4.6, variable valve vs pushrod torque monster and brother in laws with Mustangs kind of thing that gets me all petal to the metal. Well this GT sounded tuff so I did a drop on him and then the red light came... Now I knew he was up for it just by the way he tried to catch up seconds ago... Palms sweating, eyes peeled back checking out the intersection light. VDC turned off, switched over to 5mt, torqued it with a bit of gas while holding brake onto the 1500 rpm. Green! I pulled on him half a car as I see and hear his rear tires catching grip. He catches up and evens out by 40 and then I all them gear changing felt like an eternity. 60-80 we are dead even but he does his pull on me and then I do mine, again all them gear changing. At about a 100 he starts to move on me. Dissapointed not because the G35 is slow in that band, but just in that range... The G35 is mean 20-90 then seems to have a weak point till 110 and then gets strong again till 135. On with the race... We get to the light and hes SURPRISED and ask "what did you do with under that hood", I said, "nothing its stock 260hp, 260tq! Same hp as his but not as much torque.. Then we hit up on a few more runs, even up hill and all seemed the same.. very cosistant runs... It was a cool night and I would guess both were running low 15's.
P.S. I don't condone street racing but I'm not against it either. Stack your own cards and hope the right hand is delt.

Not trying to be an @$$ but the 4.6 liter motors do not have push rods. The GT 2 valves have SOHCs.

Also when we slammed on the brakes toward the intersection from about 200 ft... going about 100plus I'm guessing... his front brakes were red hot and smoking! I was impressed by the g35 braking cause I knew it was distributed evenly with the rear brakes. Nice mustang bye the way... Its the only style I like.
Re: Sedan G35mt Raced a Mustang GT.
V6 and GT Mustangs received two piston calipers in ’99 but the calipers are on the small size. The car is pretty nose heavy, too. The whole Mustang platform is pretty antiquated but has hobbled along extremely well in terms of sales despite its technological shortcomings. I can really appreciate the refinement of our G35’s drivetrain and chassis.
The 2005 Stang will be based on the same platform as the Lincoln LS which should result in a substantially better car.

My 5AT beat an AT GT by a 1/2 car lenght to 100 and then I got beat at 110...seemed like he had a lot more and i was tailing off. Not a v8 but he was pissed about me owning him in the quarter!

Sounds like fun! I'm suprised with your 15 sec time, was it hot out? Anyhow, the G35 can hold its own and can put to shame many unsuspecting drivers. I have a friend with a 98 Mustang GT who I'd like to race, but I think he's scared

how would a coupe destroy him. They weigh more than a sedan. a MT sedan against a MT GT mustang would be a good race.

Thats because it takes Ford's fully-automated production line a total of 6 minutes to produce 1 Mustang, wow I can just FEEL the quality.

Ah yes, because we all know the Lincoln LS is a fantastic car.. I wish my sportscar was based on a towncar platform.

6 minutes to produce a mustang? one might roll off the assembly line every six minute but you can bet your a$$ that it takes a lot longer than that to make one.
Before you get snobby about quality of a mustang, take a look at your own car. Nissan cut quite a few corners on the G35.

I just went from a '00 GT into my G35, and there is a huge difference in quality here, but no one should be snobby about that, all cars have issues of their own! Yeah six minutes, right, that's why when I bought my GT it took over 3 months to get it once it was ordered!

okay okay.. SEVEN minutes, WITH the OEM ratty mustang interior. hehe

First of all, I've been a NISSAN enthusiast and owned several Datsun's and NISSANs for many years. Second, I dont own a G35, I own an S13. I dont believe NISSAN is a company that "cuts corners" -- the cars they sell are tested to ensure that they can take a beating, and this is proven every day I beat the living daylights out of my car. Every ford I have driven has always had under-sized brakes that warp and fade, it seems that all the OEM parts are not even sized correctly because as soon as you start to push them to ANY limit, they start to have problems.
This is not about being on a high horse, my car is far from superior.. but its well made -- not over OR under engineered.
