maximum tire size for 17" rims

what is the maximum tire size I can use on my 2004 G35x sedan? They came with 215/55 - 17. According to Tirerack.com I may be able to go to 235/50's.
I believe the diameter is the same, but I don't know if there's enough clearance in the wheel wells, etc..

You should be able to run a 235/50 no problem. They might be a little larger diameter but not enough to cause any problems.

Klubbheads have you noticed difference in acceleration/cornering/handling etc with broader tires?

This past summer, I had 235/50 17 tires installed on my G. Absolutely no problems with fitament whatsoever. Handling/cornering seems better, but this is probably more a function of the type of tire I put on (a high performance summer, versus those crappy and utterly worthless stock EL42s).

That size is the largest I'd personally put on the stock rim. I do really like the larger/wider look though. Gives the car a sportier look.

well when i changed the tires, i did my whole suspension with it. But that 20 miles i drove to the shop i noticed more grip and better balance than stock.
I have 225/50/17 in the front and 235/50/17 in the rear with goodyear eagle f1 dsg 3 tires. as far as acceleration, there was no difference.

225/50/17 in the front.... .... interesting... so your car is about half inch lower from the front as compared to the rear.

235X50 fits the stock rims just fine. They bulge a bit. When I put those same tires on my new 5Zigen 17X8 wheels, they fit perfectly.

I'm doing the same thing... 235/50/17 are virtually identical in circumference, diameter and speedo as stock 215/15/17.

The question I have is Goodyear F1, Toyo T1R, or Kumho ASX the way to go???… The answer is obvious in order of question… but so is price… Does anyone have a good reason to spend $$$ vs $$ vs $???
