MASSIVE RECALL!!!!!

Just heard on the CNN Headline News, Nissan Motors recalling 2.6 million cars (largest in japanese history). Problem is engines that stall and do not restart. Models include Sentra AND G35 (among other models).

I think I've read one or two posts from G35 owners who complained of this problem. Fortunately I have been trouble free so far. Look out for info from Nissan in the mail.

Re: MASSIVE RECALL!!!!!

check out freshalloy.com

I was determined that it is the crank angle sensor which is not internal to the engine and can be replaced easily

Have a healthy day!

TOKYO -(Dow Jones)- Nissan Motor Co. plans to recall a total of 2.56 million vehicles sold in Japan and overseas due to faults in the engines, the automaker said Thursday.

The firm expects to book a Y15 billion-Y16 billion recall charge this fiscal year through March, but it has no plans to downgrade its earnings outlook for the current year, it said.

Nissan will recall about 1.03 million vehicles in Japan and 1.53 million vehicles sold in the U.S. and other countries.

Japan's ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said the number of vehicles Nissan plans to recall in Japan represents the country's second largest recall after the 1.04 million vehicles Nissan recalled in May 1996.

The automaker added that the recall is already factored in to its earnings forecast for this fiscal year through March.

In mid-October, Nissan said it expects a group net profit of Y495.0 billion for the full year, with an operating profit of Y820 billion and sales of Y7.450 trillion.

Nissan will recall 23 models, including the Sunny (sold overseas as the Sentra), the Skyline (sold overseas as the Infinity G35) and the Fairlady Z ( sold overseas as the 350Z).

Of the 1.53 million vehicles to be recalled overseas, Nissan will recall 700, 000 vehicles in the U.S., 460,000 in Europe and the remainder in other Asian countries, the Middle East and other regions.

Some of engines installed in these vehicles may not start properly due to problems with the sensors needed to count engine revolutions.

The sensor is made by Hitachi Unisia Ltd., an auto parts maker wholly owned by Hitachi Ltd. . Nissan adds the sensor to its engines during assembly.

The two companies will check whether the sensor problem was caused when they were produced by Hitachi Unisia or when the engines were assembled by Nissan.

Re: MASSIVE RECALL!!!!!

Media just blew this out of proportion...It's no big deal, its just the sensor, not the engine.....Just a bunch of haters out there.

seems to me that it's possible it wasn't the intake causing the cars to stall. my .02

Re: MASSIVE RECALL!!!!!

Okay-- considering that every single "it just stalled on the highway" story I've read is after the install of an aftermarket intake, I'm going to go ahead and say this recall probably isn't the reason. If I've glossed over a post that mentioned a car just stalling (not from driver error), then I apoligise.

This recall is blown way out of proportion... so we go in, get a new sensor, and leave. Whoop-dee-doo. I'm just happy they finally published the following:

"Sunny (sold overseas as the Sentra), the Skyline (sold overseas as the Infinity G35) and the Fairlady Z ( sold overseas as the 350Z)."

My friend didn't believe I was driving a Skyline and he was driving a "Fair Lady". HAH.

Re: MASSIVE RECALL!!!!!

I am not sure how the crank shaft sensor works in our engine but in other engines it is only used during start up. Once the parameters are set, the engine electronics take over.

I applaud Nissan for taking the initative to fix this potential problem. Crank shaft position sensor fail very regularly 90K-110K on my SHO and all ford does is say,"buy another"

The media blows EVERYTHING out of proportion, I worked in TV news, and it never ceased to amaze me how inaccurate they are, nor did they care, they always try the scare tactics!

Re: MASSIVE RECALL!!!!!

BMW V8's regularly blow cam position sensors. They have done no recalls; so once you're out of warranty, you pay everytime it blows!!
Nissan's recall is probably a good thing. Hopefully we get a new improved part with the defect fixed and reliability.
