starting engine ... feel a sort of "kick" ??

when i start the engine up, I usually hear/feel a sort of "kick" or thud ... any ideas? Is that normal for the G? Sometimes it doesn't happen.

I'm thinking I just need to change the oil. I just bought my G so i'm not sure if it was always there or not.

thanks

I have the same maybe worse problem than you.
It happens to me sometimes during cold starts. One time it was such a "violent" vibration that i shut off the engine, I then restarted the car but it wouldn't, so i checked the engine but didn't find anything out of the ordinary. My car was fine afterwards.
The strong vibration happened the day after i just changed the oil, but i don't beleive the two were related.

Hmmmm

How new is the car?

Might run some good fuel cleaner through it and see if that helps. I use the BG K44.

It's happened on all my VQ's (occasionally) and it's the cam chain tensioner that gets dry of oil while sitting.
As long as the sound goes away after a few seconds, you'll be fine.

I experience a light thump in the driverside floor board on startup. It doesn't make any noises similar to a "bad" thing or a problem (no cracking or screeching).

Yep, my wife's VQ did it every so often on first start of the day ONLY. First noticed this since the 10 mile mark(new) and same on my G.

dealer said no problems found.

It's the engine torqueing in the engine mounts. An engine starting and stopping creates a good bit of twisting torque. Sometimes this excessive torque will causing the mounts to pop or thud.
