My Car got me out of a Ticket

Maybe...

I meant to post this 2 weeks ago. I was in Jeffersonville PA and on Main street they repaved and timed the lights to stay green if you get em right. Saturday eve about 8 pm alone and was heading home from homey depot. I floored it and about a mile later I was handing my registration and DL to a 30 year old cop in a CVS parking lot. He says "you got some where to go". I said no SIR. He says, "any reason to be excessively speeding" (at this point I can tell no radar - he prob heard me with INjen more than he saw me) and I say "I have nothing creative to say other than I have no excuses". He says hold on after verifying my residence. Comes back 5 minutes later after I obviously checked out and asks me about getting pulled over while back and the result (PA records the stops in thier DL datafile) and starts in with a smile ...."so you had a nice open stretch of new highway and you had the lead in traffic and YOU HAVE AN EXCEPTIONAL AUTOMOBILE so I can understand your desire to open her up and make sure you blow out the carbons in your engine.
HAVE A NICE EVENING.

That’s a great story! We need more officers like that!

Re: My Car got me out of a Ticket

Unfortunately I have learned the hard way how to handle cops. They HATE excuses. I've been pulled over way too many times and the ticket to pull over ratio got better in my 20's. Then there is NC MD and OH. You get nothing from these guys. FL goes either way. Jesus I've got to stop moving.

Re: My Car got me out of a Ticket

actually, excuses do work. as long as you play the part correctly...i hate to say it, but it helps to be a bit buzzed. i was driving home one night (in a highly modified prelude), when i ran a stopsign and was going about 50 in a 25 zone. it was late at night so it was ok...no kids in the street, etc. i see a cop in the distance and said,"oh crap" he says over the megaphone,"STOP" so i do and give him DL and registration, etc. he asks why im speeding and i tell him,"im so sorry officer, a girl i loved just broke my heart," with a expressively somber face and the pain of a lost puppy in my eyes. he checked out my car, went to his car, came back and said,"slow down son, theres plenty of fish in the sea." HAHAA. that was the greatest thing ever. oh it was great.

Re: My Car got me out of a Ticket

Actually, I was pulled over the night before my wedding--this was almost 6 years ago. I was coming back from our rehearsal dinner and it was just before midnight. I got pulled over on the freeway and the officer asked how fast I was going. I told him “I’m sorry officer, I’m getting married tomorrow and I have absolutely no idea how fast I was going. I’m just too excited right now.” In all honesty, I’m willing to bet I was doing 80 in a 55, cause I always do 80 on that freeway. He was really nice and ended up giving me a ‘waste of finite resources’ ticket, basically it was $24 and I don’t think it added any points. I guess it’s a nice way of getting someone for speeding w/o actually giving them a speeding ticket. I thanked him very much and drove the speed limit the rest of the way home.

Re: My Car got me out of a Ticket

It’s a ticket for wasting gas. I thought the speed limits were originally set to conserve fuel (wasn’t it set to 55 MPH during the 70’s). Since I was going above the speed limit, I was wasting gas. He gave me that ticket and I was fined $24.

Re: My Car got me out of a Ticket

Hah... now that's BS if I ever heard it. I make much better gas mileage at 71-72 than at any other speed... almost 475 miles on a tank when I was averaging 75mph a few weeks ago. Hm... laws incongruent with logic? Couldn't possibly be! *clutching chest*

Re: My Car got me out of a Ticket

I actually thought he was joking when he told me. I think my comment was “Waste of finite resources, that’s a good one! Haha.” He didn’t think that was funny, but he still was cool enough not to give me the speeding ticket. I’m sure it would’ve been expensive.

Wow, 475 miles on a tank, I’m really impressed! Sounds like I need to take a road trip to test that out…vacation time!

Re: My Car got me out of a Ticket

Well, with that logic, he could be ticketing every Ford Excursion and Chevy Suburban on the road! LOL, yeah, cops don't like it when you think they are joking!

Re: My Car got me out of a Ticket

Here in AZ, about ½ the vehicles on the road would have to be ticketed then...But seriously, I'm not going to complain, that ticket definitely saved me some money!

Re: My Car got me out of a Ticket

Now, I may be totally wrong here, but is tax on vehicles in AZ based on the displacement of the engine? I heard this somewhere (If not AZ, not sure where). Not sure if it was registration...? Anyway, dumb regardless. I saw an M3 with a "gass guzzler" tax on the sticker. Sheesh...

Re: My Car got me out of a Ticket

Not sure what the tax is based on, but I’ll check it out and let you know. I have a friend whose goal is to own a sports car that requires he pay a gas guzzler tax. I’m curious to see what car he finally buys once he graduates and gets a job.
