tranny replacement

i was getting the same noise from my tranny and i brought it to the dealer yesterday. They said my tranny is bad and needs replacement but they need records of all my tranny oil changes. for those of you that replaced your tranny from the dealer did they ask u for these records. and did u ask for a new clutch?? (04 6mt with 59,000)

Back to AgisA's original question, I think there is no resaon why the dealership would not offer you blue book value on a trade. People trade in vehicles all the time. This would be completely independent of any warranty work.

And you save additioanl $$$ in lower sales tax ( if you paly sales tax on a new vehicle)

OK, just a small update. . .i hear quite an intesne whistiling sound now, mainly on cold days in the morning, regardless if i'm on the gas or cruising. No definitive location where its coming from. . .my other gripe is when i'm ON the gas, especially on the highway, mainly in gears 3-4, not quite in 6th gear or 5th, i hear a sound that is similar to an air leak. i brought it in, the tech test drove it and actually heard it very well. Though, no idea where it was coming from, but he's sure it wasn't an air leak form any windows. No concrete evidence its the tranny, so nothign can be done yet. and my grinding from 4 to 5 and 2 to 3 is here and there, and it can't be "duplicated" enough for the tech to see it as a problem just yet. geez, its like i want my tranny to be messed up almost! or no tranny issue at all and its just some stupid leak we can't figure out.

tranny

just got my car back from the dealership with a new tranny and jwt clutch and flywheel installed. I was getting the whistling/winding noise at low rpms. To my suprise infiniti was actually pretty cool with replacing the tranny. They heard the noise right away and dropped the pan on the tranny and determined i needed a new tranny. The only problem was it took about 2 and a half weeks for them to make a claim and get someone to approve it. It did give me enough time to order my jwt clutch and flywheel. They tried to charge me 300 dollars to install it!!! But i noticed that my i-pod i left in the car was gone so i confronted the manager. He said there has been a lot of thefts lately and he would install my clutch and flywheel for free. Car feels a lot better now with new tranny, clutch, and flywheel. i love driving it again!!!

I bought my 04 6MT coupe used and have the same issue at 35k miles. The dealer is claiming whoever had it before me simply did not know what they were doing and messed up the clutch. Any suggestions for taking another shot at getting them to replace it? We only have one dealership in Austin. I don't suppose an independent shop can do the work and submit a claim of some kind, can they?

Question

I'm in Round Rock too... your car has these transmission issues and the dealer is saying it's because somebody messed up the clutch? Seems like a messed up clutch would be easy to prove/disprove?

Edit: Oh... and who did you speak with in Service? (if you want to PM that that's cool)

i wonder if there's some sort of concrete way we can verify that this whistling sound is or isn't the tranny. . .because even if it can be duplicated easiliy with the dealership tech, would they automatically assume its the tranny? not sure if that sound is sure fire proof. anyone? thanks

Any of you guys with the whistleing sound have aftermarket airfilter/ CAI setup? The reason I ask is because when you step on the gas, some aftermarket filters ( K&N) does emmit a low whistling sound. Check on that before you start screaming XSMN. Just a thought.
