Don't think it is the K&N

I do have a Z Tube and K&N, but the reason I don't think the sound is coming from that is that it seems to be related to the speed of the car rather than the engine. It seems to get louder/higher as the car goes faster and then gets softer/lower as the car slows down. If it was the K&N, it seems like it would stop the second you got off the pedal. Also, it goes away after 5-10 minutes.

It has nothing to do with the cheap or expensive CAI. It has to do with the car sucking more air through the set up and the sound produced can the same as a whistle. I am not saying that is the problem. I am saying check to make sure it's not that first, then maybe it's the transmission indeed. BTW I have a 04 MT with 18,250 on it so I am a little concerned myself after reading this thread.

I don't have anything aftermarket under the hood and I have the whistle. It's not the windows either. It happens for the first 10 minutes you drive it. It just started happening recently. I have an '05 6MT sedan with 21K miles.

same thing with me, no aftermarket intake. i do have a ztube and mrev, but that shouldn't matter at all.

This is 6MT 05 with 31 K miles, bought it 9/06.
Can I ask Infiniti to buy it back or give me Blue book credit to buy the 07?
I just started hearing a whistling kind of noise in the first few minutes when the engine was cold and after that it went away completely.

Could it be the same issue . Car has just 15500 miles.

MISSION accomplished. . .i left my at the dealership, went this morning for a test drive with the tech. taht whistling noise came up, so the tech contacted infiniti corp, and they told him to replace the tranny, so i'm satisfied at this point with their response. Now, next step is to convince them to install my aftermarket clutch/flywheel. . .

after reading this thread, now I'm worry about mine. I have an 04 with 18k on it. I do hear some whistle noise and I thought it could be from the k&n. I need an oil change anyway and I'll point that out to the tech.

Great, I only put about 5K on my car a year. At this rate my warranty will be out just around the time the tranny dies.

Guess I need to driver her harder.

That is when she get's back from the body shop. I wrecked her 3 weeks ago. Poor thing only had 4800 miles on it.

How loud is this whistle sound? I have a K&N with the Ztube and get a slight whistle sound (or sucking sound) but it seems more noticeable now.

It sounds like what you describe. I know our cars has an open duct for the stock filter box. I also removed the "power duct". I thought it would be the sucking sound that is common on opened filter, especially an oiled filter. For the filter sucking sound, you usually hear it when you let go the gas. I'll listen to it more carefully tonight to determine if it is filter related or not.

So like some have experienced, the dealership woudl instal my aftermarket clutch/flywheel, but installation woudl not be covered under warranty. So, i opted to stick with a new OEM clutch/flywheel. . pity.

As for teh tranny crapping out, i'm sure i coudl proabbly drive with my original tranny for many more thousand miles, but my tranny woudl deterioate quicker, and just get worse. So its a matter of catching it sooner, before its gets even worse later.
