Question Performance or Appearance

I have a 06 g sedan 6mt with only a z-tube and was on the way home from dinner last night and saw three guys attempting to race. The cars were an 04 or 05 Lexus IS300, a 93 Lexus SC300 and some POS Honda civic. At the next light I decided to join in. I was about one car length behind the guys at the light and on green it was on. The only competition was the IS300. I was able to blow by the others and catch up to the IS300 at about 95mph. I was surprised by his quickness and the only mod I could see was his exaust.
Here is where the confusion comes in. I should have been able to eat up the IS no problem. I have about $3200.00 saved for some mods. Was going to get some 19" Volk GT-7's and a drop but after this i'm thinking about performance.
Buy the way at the next light was an SRT Cherokee. The IS actually tried it. We all know the results HOLY SHI*

If that SC was modded, he would smoke all of you. That's a luxury Supra right there.

For you though, I saw get a little of both. Get some rims and a few performance mods. Plenum spacer, pop-charger, exhaust, test pipes..

I think the IS has the same motor as the non turbo Supra and the SC300.

1JZ is in the SC300, the IS doesn't have the JZ motor but just some random toyota developed 6cylinder. I've seen video's of 1000+ hp SC300 1JZGTE's. but i've also seen a lot of swapped IS's for 2JZE's out of the supra.

ps Roslim - those volk rims would look sexy with a drop. not gonna lie. at least you'd feel good lookin good when you get home

You're mistaken; the IS300 might not have the 2JZ-GTE (twin turbo), but it does have the 2JZ-GE found in the non turbo Supra.

We all have differing opinions, but I choose performance first over all else. Once my tires are in need of replacement, I *may* think about getting some different wheels at the same time, but only if I could find lighter, wider wheels that would provide some benefit. I am not into body kits and graphics and stuff like that. I do have the factory front & rear spoiler - that I am okay with. I would get a drop for the double-benefit of increased handling and looks, but that is cheap.

go with the wheel and tires. you will be fairly surprised with the difference a good performance tread makes

If the IS was able to stay w/ the SRT... then it's def modded ! The SRT Cherokee's are 13.5 stock, stock IS's are 15.1.

I say do a couple perfromance mods with your budget first, and then save some more and get the Volks you want. Make sure not to go to crazy with the go fast goodies!!!
