Just called. The guy lives like 5 miles from me. His shop is a long way but he drives downtown and right past my house on his way to work.
Oh sweet. You're so lucky. Although shipping to Cali isn't too bad. I ordered a gallon of spectrum and some deadener and rattle pad and shipping came out to $16 IIRC.

Also, for the spectrum you can you dilute it with water and use a regular spray gun, you just have to apply more coats or do thicker ones.

Quote: thanks for all the info Can this stuff be used as a thermal barrier base, then lightly sanded/prepped and painted over?
Not quite too sure. You might be able to just spray right over it, but I would allow time for it to fully cure, approx 30 days. Although it does dry within a few hours, it doesn't completely cure till quite some time. You could always call Ant and double check. He's very helpful and never tires to oversell. You just tell him what vehicle you got, your application and thoughts and he'll tell ya what you need or give you suggestions of what would work best.

Do you know anything about the Damper X?

For $100 per 5gal cheaper it might be worth a try...

I was going to order some more Luxury Liner Pro and some Sludge. Might be worth it to skip the Luxury Liner Pro for now and see what the sludge or Damper X does. Thoughts?

I wouldn't go with Damper X since it doesn't have the exact same properties as Spectrum or Sludge.

Taken directly from the SS webpage...

"Damper X is not the same formula as our own Spectrum coatings and will provide different damping results. The claims we make on our regular coatings do not apply to this product. This is a cheaper version of our product that will not be as good as our Spectrum and Sludge dampers."

... I would not chance it. 1 gallon was a lot for me. I used 1.75 gallons and here's all of what I did:

3 layers on front wheel wells and fenderand 1 layer rear wheel weels, 1 layer on all 4 doors, 1 or 2 layers on the hood, 4 layers on trunk lid, 3 layers on upper rear deck, 3 layers C pillars, 2 layers on part of the firewall, 2 layers on the back side of tail lights, 2 layers on bottom of rear seats. All that was painted spectrum.

I did the trunk floor and walls with 3 thick coats diluted with water.

As for sludge, I did 1 layer on front fenders and wheel wells, 2 thick layers on the upper read deck, 2 or 3 layers on the bottom of the rear deck, and 2 layers on the trunk lid.

All of that was with 1.75 gallons, so it will cover PLENTY of area. The remaining I gave to a buddy of mine.

I looked more into the Firewall and Luxury Liner and Firewall is a bit more based to reduce heat whereas Luxury liner geared more towards minimizing noise. I did read that for best results, to apply luxury liner over Firewall. If you want to go that route, I'd go with Firewall, probably 1 gallon, and then get Luxury Liner (or Pro for best results). You can get even more hardcore and before putting on Firewall, put Damplifier or Damplifier Pro.

Lol, yeah there are so many ways to go about it and the cost can rise quickly. No problem and good luck. I'm sure Ant will be able to provide a bit better input as well. I'm curious to know what he says as I will be going down the same route in the future.

I'll let you know when I go down there. Might not happen tomorrow but he said he's there a few days a week and if I set up a time I can come down to get whatever I need.

Also, glad to know I may not need 5gal of this stuff. I will gladly pay the additional cost for 2-3gal.

The new KW coilovers and Rare JDM strut bar helped a ton! The Nitto NT05's were great.

I did a review of the tires here:
