Took the G in this morning for rear brake squeal and an oil change. My service rep (from Atlantic Infiniti) just called and said Infiniti is going to replace them under warranty. But, the good news is - they are replacing the fronts under warranty also!!!!!! He said "Infiniti just told them yesterday, to cover the fronts from premature wear") I only have 8,300 miles and they have 3% left!!!!!!! Now, I will have to sell the EBC - Greenstuff pads I purchase back in June. MAY TO GO INFINITI!!!!!!!

That's good and bad news.

Good news.. Infiniti's stepping up to the plate, and covering this problem.

Bad news.. you have to return the EBC's and live with brake dust for another 27,700 miles.

Are they replacing them with a different pad, or the same thing? I would hope they would have an improved pad!

Maybe not. I think he said they are different than the original ones. We will see in the next few days. I will post my opion.

Strange that the squeal was coming from the rear - indicating that (those) pads wore out before the fronts. Seems the fronts would wear out first.

No, the rears were probably not worn out.. they just squeal for the hell of it. That's why there's been a TSB out to replace the rears for squealing for quite some time now.

what the... think there's any chance that those of us who had our pads and rotors changed already can get a refund from the dealer?

 

I hope this goes out soon, as I just got my car back from the dealer. (Driver's seat wobble, they were going to replace the lift rail assembly, but the one they had in stock was damaged in shipping or something, so we try again next week.) I had them inspect my brakes while they had the car, and my fronts are down to about 30% use left. I'm at 8200 miles. They're still citing the "performance car brakes" routine, so I hope this notice gets to them in the next couple of months. I asked about the rotors, too, and was told they're fine.. they just resurface the rotors and generally don't have to replace them until the 2nd brake job. I can definately put up with the brake dust for free brake replacements.

I sent an email through the Infiniti web site aon Tuesday asking about this, and as of yet have heard nothing from them! I did call, and was told "something is in the works" whatever that means! Yeah, right, performance brakes!

typhoon... thanks for the heads up. middle of next week, i'm taking in my G for the same things - oil change and rear brake squeal. i've got about 8900 on mine right now. i wonder what they'll say about my brakes.

Update:

Picked up the car this evening. The squeal is gone. The brake pads are the as the original. (Still have to deal with all that dust - but it's free) The service manager says "Infiniti will keep replacing the fronts for one year or 30k miles." He believes they will eventually change to a different material. I guess I will hold on to my EBC's!!! I hope Infiniti will reimburse everyone who has paid for a brake job prior to this.

Well, now, another post says the Infiniti Consumer people said 3 year/36k for the brake warranty, and they would be sending notification in the mail shortly! I spoke to a lady there earlier this week, and she told me the mail thing too, just not what was going to happen! hmmmmm, guess we'll just have to wait and see! IMO dealers will try to get out of it unless it's in writing!

My dealer said no notification - its not a recall and they want to do as few jobs as possible.

 

woohoo! this is good news.. I will get some $ back for changing the front brakes.. hehe
