Road & Track rips the new G sedan
Road & Track rips the new G sedan
After reading posts on this forum for a year and a half, one chronic complaint has been the manual tranny. Well you critics have been vindicated by R&T. In the February edition of R&T, they compare the new G35 sedan, the Acura TL, and the IS 350. Since the G was the newest I assumed it would finish first, but it came in last, and the reason was because of the tranny.
Actually R&T's ccomplaints are the same as have been written on this forum by many posters:
1. A high amount of vibration resonates throughout the 6 speed manual gearbox.
2. The take up point is like an on/off switch, making it impossible to leave the line smoothly.
3. The pedal engagement feel for the clutch is poor.
As a matter of fact R&T disliked the manual tranny so much that they actually recommend that G buyers get the auto, which is a radical recommendation for a magazine which always applauds manufacturers for offering manual trannies.

The design team at Nissan that did the manuals on the Gs needs to put us out of their misery by doing self-laparotomies.
Then the management team that looked the other way when they produced these crappy trannies should each have two MTs chained to their feet and be sent to "swim with the fishes."
Then the new management team should just buy an MT from a supplier and be done with it. That's what they do with ATs.

The Auto is one of the best trannys in any car. The manual, while typically desirable, sucks in the G's I have driven. It's understandable now that auto's allow gear selection and control that the mag would have you avoid that crap.
well, imo, my next car will definately not be a G...sedan. i think i'd go with the lexus or something thats a little more luxory.

Oh and by the way, you should invest in some english classes.
I don't get it how everyone bags on the 6MT tranny. I have had zero problems with mine. If the tranny was an issue, you would hear about them blowing out left and right not just the few loudmouths on the message boards.
As for the new G, I love it. My buddy just bought an '07 and he brought it around theis weekend for me to check out. The Interior is heads above my '03. The exterior looks nice. With a set of aftermarket wheels it would look killer

The IS350 IS so tiny inside you really have to be a small man or woman to be comfortable in there. The back seats have as much room as the G 35 Coup. Yeah its fast but its not comfortable. I would pick the 07 G over a IS350. A few mods and you can make it just as quick. The lexus has better leather but I like the overall interior of the G more.
ive driven 330s m3's , porsche 911 turbo and etc in manual. as a matter of fact i was driving my friends z8 bmw last night. i have the new 07 sedan and to be honest the tranny feels like it supposed to suit the driver, it isnt as smooth as the other cars but its def sportier and alot more responsive, on the z8 with that old m5 engine i expected it to be difficult to drive, it was much easier than the manual tranny on the Gs!!!!i think bmw makes their manual too smooth , as if it were supposed to suit the passanger the clutch is very sticky on our Gs but i think it keep the fun in driving , its a bit more challenging than most cars and a bit more fun. that is just my opinion from experience with other cars. hope that helps
