Downshift Rev Matching

Does the 2006 G35X have Downshift Rev Matching when using the manual shift mode of the 5AT? Nissan News states so in the Overview section but it does not appear in the Specifications section. Some e-brochures include this feature in the 2006 sedan model description. How do I know if my car has this feature?

um go drive it and use manual mode and downshift, if your rpm's match your flywheel speed then you will get the same vroom and jerk as when using a manual. maybe not a jerk but the rpm's should go up

Yeah..what he said. I know for a fact that your car has it, as I have an '04 and mine doesn't. I've driven '06x loaner cars & they definitely have this feature....wish mine did.

I actually don't like this feature. I also have an '04 and I use the manumatic all the time. I like to downshift and when it matches it does not slow the car down much at all. If I want to match I just give it some gas during the shift, but seeing as the match only really effects the downshift I like to feel the downshift. Just my personal prefrence...

It wouldn't be listed in the specs since it's a feature not a spec. I can't be sure, but it seem that latest X loaners I've gotten definately had it.

You sure the '04's have it? If they do, they the procedure isn't nearly as refined as in the '05s and '06's. My tach doesn't jump up if I downshift....if I try to downshift, my manumatic doesn't allow me for the first several tries, but then will....and the RPM's don't jump. In the newer models, though, however, you downshift, and that RPM needle spasms and jumps up immediately, giving you a smooth transition (easier on the tranny).

I like it, down shifting into a turn is silky smooth into all gears but 1st. Going down from 2-1 the car jerks a bit. But from say 3-2, the car stays stable and smooth on turn in while down shifting, which takes talent to do in a manual.

+1 You're so right.

I'm okay at this in an MT, but the AT makes it seamless. A buddy of mine used to wrench and race Lotuses; one day we were test-driving a car, he hauls *** into a U-turn, downshifts, and I swear the motion of the car didn't change at all. The only way I knew he'd downshifted is a) I saw it and b) the revs changed. Pretty sweet.

Rev match on a A/T is dangerous....

I once took my car in (03.5 sedan) and they gave me a 06 loaner.... little did i know about the rev matching.... i down shifted in heavy bumper to bumper traffic expecting the car to slow down like my car does and OHH SHHHHH!!!!T the car jerked forward aggresively... i smashed the brake ..... I'm with Illegal on this one..... i dont like that rev matching feature... easy way to get in trouble.....besides my sedan if i ever want to rev match i simple down and get on the gas allowing the car to match its rev on the following gear.... + i have the ability to get off the gas and slow the car down without needing the brake as often.

I love the rev matching. There are a couple corners by my house where it comes in handy thus improving my driving experience as I downshift for the corners. I think it's the best. Wish more cars had it. There is no way I'd even call it dangerous.

Get in bumper to bumper traffic and downshift.....

Especially if you are unaware of that feature.... Then you'd call it dangerous

Yea if your unaware it might shock you. 2,3,4 are smooth as butter, I manual down shift, to slow on the highway. Its made for preformance driving not traffic. In traffic I'm in D. 1st gear is rough but it dint jerk forward no way.

I agree that it shouldn't jerk forward at all except for maybe the 2-1. I've been driving my 06 through various types of traffic for a few days and to be honest, it's not too much of a difference over the garden variety autos that I'm used to. The 97 4AT Maxima and the 5AT CL-S I used to have jerk a lot more when downshifting. The rev matching only removes the jerkiness and the car will still slow via engine braking once the revs are up and in lower gear.

Expecting a car to slow down fast enough in stop and go traffic is dangerous. I don't even try that on my 6mt especially since engine breaking is not that effective in this car. To slow down with distance on the highway is another story.

It would seem to me that not having it would be more dangerous especially if you are a spirited driver. I wouldn't want the car jerking on me in the middle of a hard turn. That could potentially make people lose control.
