Mustang GT... can they compete?

Unless the last two I've met had really bad drivers, these cars aren't as quick as I thought. Both times I was behind, following on an on ramp as we merged onto the highway, and both times it seemed as though the GT's hammered the throttle as soon as the road strightened. I had no trouble keeping up, even had to ease off the gas so I would not kiss the rear bumper.

So how about it? Did I give the Mustang GT more kudos than it deserved?

Well, having just come out of a GT, I would say yes, they can compete, I'm not a "racer" by any means, but I like the feel of power getting onto the Interstate, and the G demo I drove when I bought mine, sure seemd as powerful as the GT did in that respect, I'l have to let you know again once my breakin is done, almost there! Plus, the GT sure can't compete in ride!

Re: Mustang GT... can they compete?

Hi,

What style/year/model was the Mustang?

The current GTs run the 1/4 in the very low 14's at almost 100 which is right there with the G Coupes...with any mods they are in the 13's and eating any stock G alive...as for the ride, the G obviously is by far ahead on all levels.

Bad G driver + Good GT driver = Race

Other circumstances... no. I've got a GT convertible sitting in my garage right now, and in head-to-heads, my AT Sedan has whooped up on it every time (two diff drivers of the GT).

Re: Mustang GT... can they compete?

My testing was far from scientific. It's a 2k2 5MT convertible... unless perfectly driven, I think the 5AT would take it, *but* that's just me. I should probably take them both to the track, but I'm so incredibly apathetic recently I should've added "your results may vary" under my last post

G will kill the GT in any case.

I raced my 2004 maxima with GT i was pulling on him pretty fast so i think G will take on GT without any trouble.

(And also my car was in the braking period too)

G35 auto > GT auto.
G35 auto = GT man (drivers race) unless GT missshift the gear.

I beat both stock in my s/c Accord V6 hehe.

Re: Mustang GT... can they compete?

I think in any case, it will be a driver's race, especially MT to MT. The pre-99 GT's are dogs, I had one, and that's why I sold it 3 months later to buy a Cobra. The post 98 GT's have 260 conservatively and more TQ than the g35 on dyno's. With intake and exhaust, the GT quickly jumps into 13 sec territory. The G35 does not. Regardless, I don't think a g35 will "kill" a post 98 GT. Auto to auto may be a a different story, however because the GT's auto is pretty antiquated.

Yeah. The pre/post 98 thing is key here.

Re: Mustang GT... can they compete?

Well these two GTs were pretty new, and I know the second one was a manual because I kept having to ease off the gas everytime he changed gears. Oh well,... maybe he wasn't pushing it too hard.

Re: Mustang GT... can they compete?

I have raced two GT's. One was on a 0-60 which I had about a 1 1/2 car length on him. The other was on the I-10, we both started at 60 and went to 110. I lost by 2 1/2 car lengths. Since we can't do 110 in the quarter, I would factor those lengths together and say that it would be an extremely close race in the quarter.
