Only 3+ qts drained during an oil change!
Only 3+ qts drained during an oil change!
Changed my oil this morning and only managed to drain 3qts out. So out of the 5qts I put in, there were 3 in the drain bottle, and maybe another 0.75 qts in the filter and 2 samples I saved for oil analysis... 3.75 qts in all....damn...
I was so sure that the VQ wasn't consuming any oil... well the joke's on me. I gonna blame that stupid dipstick... I could never seem to get an accurate reading off of it. Who's got an effective tecnique to share?

With that dipstick, effective techniques involve ancient dark rituals.

It does sorta resemble a sacrificial knife..... something the highlander might use....
Anyway, with a 7.5K mile ODI, it appears that the VQ consumes a half a quart every 3000 miles. Also the fumoto performed it's job without a hitch... straight into the bottle without using a drain pan.

Speaking of the dipstick, is there an easy way to get it back into the opening? I cehck mine in the garage, and need to use a flashlight to find the opening, first time I checked it, I thought it was going in the wrong place! That thing needs an extension tube on it!

I'm afraid that task, too, requires ancient dark ritures.

I can't believe Infiniti made the simple process of checking the oil so complicated. I felt like a complete idiot as I tried to weave the very flexible dipstick (bent tip and all) into the opening and not burn my arm or trash my shirt. I mean, come on guys, how hard can it be to design an oil dipstick that nobody has to write about?

Glad it's not just me, I thought maybe I was losing it!

Yeh this dipstick was aptly named----. Not one of Nissan's better disigns. lol
Seems to be a fact of life with this ride. I've found keeping the tip as straight as from the factory, (I know it's bent a lot already). It is easy to bend even more by misinserting. A light helps for this chore.
I've found that checking the level after the fluid has settled overnight is best since the stick itself is hard to read. To do this, tho, yu must be careful to put in about the correct amount on refill (5 US quarts, or 4.7 litres with filter change)
