You can order one from www.infinitiwholesaleparts.com (Grubb's Infiniti in Dallas, TX) for $29.99.

My local dealer charges more. They want that much for the engine air filter, which is only $9.99 from Grubb's.

Re: Cheapest place for cabin filter?

it filters the recirc air when you use your air conditioning. it is a cheap fiber filter.

Procedure: Pull off door sill plastic on passenger side (5 plastic clips)
Remove plastic above the passenger footwell beneath glovebox by pulling straight DOWN.
Remove right side passenger interior kick panel (one plastic nut at top of carpet under dash, then pull out towards radio to release the two plastic clips at the rear of the panel)
Remove two screws from bottom of glovebox, then remove four screws from top of glovebox.
Ensure your battery + and - cables are disconnected and have been disco'ed for >3 minutes to ensure you won't trip the SRS system.
Then pull real hard on the glove box assembly to the rear and slightly to the right. There will be 3 wire plugs going to the glovebox (light, trunk release and a yellow one which I assume is a airbag wire) Either remove these or let the glovebox hang by them, you can do it either way.
The white box behind the glove box has the filter in it, pull off the access cover.
Replace filter and make sure it is up in the top of the hole. there are tabs on the inside ofthe cover to hold the filterup, but if you leave the filter down when you put it in, they will squish the filter.
Put everything back together.

sounds complicated but only takes about 5 minutes to do the second time you do it especially with a cordless drill.

Re: Cheapest place for cabin filter?

Seems like they could have put the filters in a better place for the consumer to change more easily than having to take the dash apart. But then look at the dip stick they designed!

In BMW's these filters just sit in their own box on the left and right side of the firewall (in the engine compartiment) and just easily can be popped in or out.

Re: Cheapest place for cabin filter?

Are you sure that's the cabin filter? 'Cause in my Z3, that's where the regular engine filter is.....

G35: Black with Willow/Canadian Premium Package.
Z3: Silver with Red leather interior.

Sometimes I get the feeling they design these things with difficulting in mind, so you have to take it to the dealer and pay more $$$.

Re: Cheapest place for cabin filter?

It is not as difficult as it may seem, just grab and pull in the direction I told you. the first time, a small screwdriver can be used to pry the panels back far enough to sight the clips with a flashlight, so you know where to apply the pressure.

I had the entire dash of my car apart in about 10 minutes this last time as I changed teh filter for the second time and relocated my VDC button at the same time. Radio, center console, shift boot, clock trim, glove box, kick panels, steering wheel trim, all of it.

Took me longer to crimp the wires than it did to remove/install

stalker:
I was referring to 5 and 7 series BMW's. There are two cabin air cleaners mounted on the left and right side of the firewall. I don't know about Z3's.....but I have never seen an engine air cleaner mounted on a fire wall?? l
