That was how my State Farm agent described the policies. I believe the main difference is the avoidance factor. I had no way of avoiding the tire tread.
It's very possible that our insurance companies have different policies, but I've been through MANY comprehensive claims over the years with various ins cos, mostly chipped or cracked windshields from rocks. They have always told me that if the rock comes right from dumptruck, then collision. If the rock was bouncing or I didn't see where it came from, then comprehensive.
