What is the G35 track model?
What is the G35 track model?
I'm really confused about the sport suspension after calling the Pinnacle Infiniti parts. I have a 3.5 G35S with premium, winter and wood. The guy took my vin # and told me that I have a track model (never heard of such a thing) and that my shocks and springs are exactly the same parts as in the sport suspension. He said that Infiniti must've used sport suspension parts that day. Does it all make sense? I was at the dealer today and drove a sport suspension sedan and didn't notice much difference except the tires grip.
Re: What is the G35 track model?
There isn't a "track model" for the G35 Sedan. If you have the wood, then you don't have the sport suspension. You probably have 6-spoke rims instead of 5-spoke (sport), as well. There isn't a whole lot of difference in bump absorption between the regular and sport suspensions. Tires do make a difference. I have a sport-suspension car with the Bridgestone all-season tires, and they don't grip.
Theres a 350Z track model, I believe.

He can't tell from your VIN what type of suspension you have. Meaning, you can't decipher the VIN to get the suspsion type. If it is the dealer that sold you your car, they may be able to enter your VIN into an Infiniti based computer system to get more details of your car though.
Also, If you bought the car new, just check the Mulroney sticker (window sticker) that came on your car, it will include all of your options.

check your shocks as well. the sport suspension shocks are red not black. turn your wheels one way all the way and you whould be able to get a look at your shocks. not the springs though. if the shocks are red then you got sport suspension.

Stopped by Tustin infiniti today and, among other things asked about this "track" G35. There happened to be some Corp Infiniti engineers and a "builder" on site. James took the question to them. He pulls a book out of the back of his Q4 and looks up some tables....he then said that all the G35 sport supsensions have the "red" shocks. If Japan says there is a "track" model, there may be semantics (track.jp vs sport suspension.us) or there could be something different offered for the JDM on the V35.
In short, according to Mr. Infiniti corp/engineer, there is no U.S. "track" model. If you ordered a Sport Supsension and got black shocks, you did not get Sport Suspension. If you 've got red, you have Sport.

Re: What is the G35 track model?
The USDM Infiniti FAST system (parts lookup) lists 3 grades of G35's: Basic, Track, and Sport. The description for the track model is "Track (Leather) Type Grade" Unfortunately, it doesn't list any more than that.
There are listings on parts that show specific to the "track model". For example the front suspension dampers on a sedan have a couple listings with "track" as one of the vehicle options. But the coupes don't. I've also seen that as a listed option with some of the brake components too.
Now I'm even more curious about that "ghost package"

FN Salesmen/women. I love this line ... "He said that Infiniti must've used sport suspension parts that day."
I'm sure that's what happened. The assembly line said, oops, no regular suspension today, we're going to build the all new "track" model.
My salesman told me it's easier to replace the trunk than drill holes for the spoiler. When I went to put a spoiler on, they came to me, quite sheepishly, and admitted they indeed drill holes in the trunk. No sheet!
I sometimes wonder of car salespeople lie so much they believe they're in an honest profession.
