Wow, glad you are ok after that.

My guess is that it will be much closer to $10k in repairs.

How about some close-ups of the tires? Just curious about how "bald" is "bald"?

From what I can see in the picture, your old tires seem to be worn down to or past the legal limit as shown by the wear indicator bars.

Well, all I can say is that you and the people in the cars around you were sooooo lucky that things didn't turn out worse than they did.

well, back in the days i drove my integra with bad alignment, had the weels for about 3 years, over 60k miles on them, and the "wear indicator bar" is basically a strip of metal that shows up when the rubber is gone.

my teg however, never lost control the rain for some reason. it did however, at one point, had my rear end do a "fish tail" kinda thing, but i eventually regain control of the car, (front wheel drive = more control?) . but for my G, i will switch to an all weather tire or not drive in the rain at all.

good luck with your car man. anyways, i know a shop in santa ana who does good body work for cheap. my teg was rear ended by a pole. (dumb azz car wash guy left my car in reverse, then he placed my key in his pocket, accidently hit the "starter button" and the rest was history.

anyways, the shop is fixing my rear end (trunk, bumper, etc0, painting my entire car 3-stage ivory pearl white, fixing all the minor dents for 1500.

On the picture posted, look at the three o'clock postion and a little shy of the one o'clock position.

See where you can take a pen and draw from the inside shoulder of the tire to the outside shoulder of the tire and not catch the point of the pen in the four cirumferential gooves of the tire? The extra material molded into the cirumferential grooves is there so that when the tread is worn down to the legal limit, it looks like a solid "bar" of rubber appears.

Here's an organization that advocates replacing the tread wear indicator bar with color coding: http://www.safetires.org/smart_tread_concept.html

just an update guys estimated at $12K so far and hopefully nothing else needs to be fixed. I was way off on my estimate. They are going to have to blend the driver side doors and the trunks, so I am getting practically a new paint job........ohh...and expect a HUGE COMEBACK....i've got BIG PLANS...lets just leave it at that for now

Tires are probably the most important things that you can control. Check tire wear and pressure routinely, don't be lazy when it comes time to replace, and read tirerack to get performance tires that also do well in the rain.
