Re: Getting better gas mileage?

Gsedanman, on the sedan the mounting points are definitely ahead of the rear suspension. I have not looked under a coupe; perhaps its mounting points are different.

Re: Getting better gas mileage?

Ok I was looking at my fuel economy on the Navi and see how many mpg i was getting and it said that I was getting about 11mpg. Now I maybe wrong but shouldn't the G35 get about 19mpg? How can I fix that so I can get my mpg closer to 19 or even 16? Will the K&N air filter help it much?

Re: Getting better gas mileage?

Well I am granning it most of the time. I use 91 like the dealer told me to. I live in southern Cali so it normal conditons i guess. Is there any real way to make the car use at least a little less gas? Even if I get 13 i would feel happier.

Re: Getting better gas mileage?

How's your commute to work? Stop-n-Go? Interstate parking lot? It doesn't matter how you granny it in those conditions, it's gonna suck fuel. I've noticed my mileage start to improve just a little as the engine breaks in. 11 does seem awfully low. My first couple of tanks were 15. This one looks like it's going to come in at 20, but it's also the first tank that was mostly highway instead of mostly commuting. I'm saving all my gas receipts so that in a few months I can look back and see if there are any patterns regarding fuel brand and economy.

Re: Getting better gas mileage?

No, I just drive to college and back that is all. It only takes like 15-25 min. Not really any stop and go. So do you think that after a while my gas will improve? This is like my second week i had the car so I think it might improve? It did improve a little from 10.2 or something. Should I go to the dealer and asked them about the poor gas milage?

Re: Getting better gas mileage?

It certainly wouldn't hurt to call the dealer and have them look at it. The worst I've gotten so far was 14.7. It should improve some as the engine breaks in, but you're starting off rather low on the scale. It's possible something's not adjusted quite right.

Re: Getting better gas mileage?

gas mileage for the first couple hundred miles is pretty low.. mine wasn't that great even though i was doing mostly highway miles.. but even then, i didn't go below 15.. i'd give it a few fillups.. continue monitoring it and if it doesn't get better.. like 15 mpg or more, then it wouldn't hurt to talk to your dealer..

on the same topic.. i just filled up last night.. last fillup was last tuesday.. i installed the K&N on saturday and have been using the sport shift since last tuesday.. gas mileage at my last fillup was a little more than 16 (50/50 city/hwy).. checked it last night.. got about 17.5. i'm not sure if that's due to different style of driving from using the sport shift, trying to shift at 2000 rpm's and never going past 3000, even though i didn't really go past 3000 before.. or if my filter change had anything to do with it.. also, i'm rapidly approaching my next oil change, so maybe mpg will improve once i get clean oil into my G.

Re: Getting better gas mileage?

Did you fill up, reset the mileage counter, and jump on the freeway? That's usually what happens to me.. fill up on the way home from work, and it jumps to 24-25. Then the next day's morning commute sets things back to normal. If you take a road trip and run the whole tank thru at a constant speed without stopping, you'll actually achieve that kind of mileage.

Re: Getting better gas mileage?

Have you tried a different brand of gas? That might be part of the problem. I get my best mileage & performance out of Chevron 91. The worst mileage I have seen tankwise is 81.2 miles per quater of a tank. The best is 105.1 per quarter.
