problems w/ g??

well, i was just wondering if there are any known major issues with the 05-06 6mt sedans i should know about? Like i hear that the 06' coupes are always burning oil. Since both are the same motor, should we be worried about this in our sedans as well? i havent heard alot of sedan owners stating that they burn oil though. Is there anything else, such as messed up tranny at 15k miles? or something like that?

i sit and only hear about people slamming on their brakes and wondering why they go bad after 15k miles that's about it.

you'd get a kick of what people walk in and complain about in their Infiniti's. i get to be on the other side of the dealership

there's only one incident i've heard about an oil consumption motor in a sedan and that was VodkaRocket's 5AT, which is really out of the ordinary. I dont think there are any major problems that sedans have to worry about.

How in the hell are people killing the 05-06 brakes after 15k miles?!?! I drive my car like i stole it all the time (the way its supposed to be driven) with 32k miles on it and my front brake pads are still at 7/32nds on both sides.

I know there are some oil consumption problems. The 05+ fixed the brake issue. If you get a 6MT you might have tranny synchro problems, nissan has replaced 1,000's of trannys.

05 and 06 MT sedans are having problems with buring oil just like the coupe guys. I'm buring through approx 2 qrts in between oil changes.

Every G/Z owner should spend the $100 on a oil pan spacer from Jim Wolf. It lets you add an extra qt. for those times you might not check as often as you should.

I am sorry but I do not slam on my brakes unless its an emergency. I would say I drive nice 95% of the time since I am just going back and forth to work. When I go out, I go out to the city which its normal stop and go traffic. My brakes started squealing at 14k miles and hasnt stopped since. Now I have 19k and they say I need new brake pads and rotors.

The dealer told me the brake pads are only suppose to last 15-20k. You can read my other thread for more details. I had an acura, bmw and toyota before and never had to replace my brake pads and rotors at 19k miles. I drove the same way if not worst with the other cars.

so how can we tell if we have synchros problems? i want to have all of my stuff checked and fixed, if there will be a problem. i'm already at 20k. maybe i should also check the oil too in between changes.

True but I bet your brakes didn't no where near as well as the G brakes. You got to pay to play

It's comments like this that convince me that Infiniti is still a wanna be luxury brand and to never get another Infiniti again. A luxury brand should be fixing the problem instead of denying a problem that is known to exist with many of their customers. I'll just add him to the list of people that represent Infiniti that won't own up to the true excessive brake wear problems on the 05x. Thankfully I was able to find someone who was able to get Infiniti to admit to the problem and got them to compensate me for it.

For those that don't know, the 05x has the same excessive break wear problems as the 03 & 04's had and it's not from people slamming on their brakes despite what the poster above wants you to think. The settlement check I got from Infiniti proves that Infiniti is aware of it. Infiniti just wants the problems pushed under the table so those that don't go after Infiniti are made to think that they are the problem, not the brakes.

After only 8K miles I was already on my 3rd set of front brakes and rotors and 2nd set of rear brakes and rotors due to excessive brake wear, the brakes grinding and scoring the rotors and the dreaded brake squeal. It was from the poor quality of the brake pads, not from braking too hard as I've never had this problem with the Lexus, Saab or Volvo that I had prior to this.

Ask yourself this question, if there isn't a problem with the pads, why were the pads and rotors updated on the 05 Sedan and on all 06's including the 06x? If you look at the rotors thru the openings in the wheels you can see the size difference of the rotors and brakes between the 05x and the other 05's and 06's and the result of this was that they don't have the same excessive wear problems.

If you getting that type of wear, you need to look at your driving not the car. Do you ride with your foot on the brake?

I drive the $hit out of my car and I got 25K on the first set of brakes and those lasted all the way till 44K.

Would have prefered that Infiniti used less aggressive braking system? I know I wouldn't

Bottom line is high performance brake wear out quicker. Rotors are cheap and so are pads. It's so easy to replace them yourself. It's a small price to pay for killer brakes
