Hey guys, just needed a quick opinion regarding tires. I had a blowout today and I wanted to know if this is normal for my car, 04 Sedan. I'm not sure why it did because I check my tires and it felt fine. I dont do any abnormal wear and tear, dont even race around with my car and I'm wondering if other G's were experincing this. My car is around 23k miles and I've had brake and rotor work done but nothing to the tires.

What would you guys recommend?

Most blowouts are from objects in the road and they may not be in the tire when you take it off. If the tire got very hot, such as from a stuck and overheating brake, that could do it too. Sometimes they are from defects in the tire, such as bubbles (blebs) in the side walls.

which tires were they? that might help in detemrining the problem

Sorry should have posted more info, tires are Bridgestone Turanzas P215/55 R17.

Sometimes you just have a blowout from road debris, etc. It may not have been anything to do with the tires.

Certainly nothing to do with the car. My vote goes to road debris, too.

Just wanted to get a feeling from other sedan owners about the tires and I'll check into the debris. From what I saw, the wierdest thing about it was that the tire treading completely came off with only the rim and some rubber left, but I've never actually seen a blowout or experienced one before so the debris could be it.

I haven't heard anyone complaining about blowouts so I don't think it's a common problem with the G tires. Also, how often do you check the tire presure in your tires? You should do it once a month or so.

In most cases if the tread comes off it means the tire was driven on too low air pressure and the sidewall failed but your TPS warning light would have came on. It may have just been one of those things that happens from time to time.

How fast were you going and how long did you drive before pulling over? The longer you go on a flat tire, the more likely the tread would come off after a blow-out...

I was probably going 80ish for a while and I heard the rumble then and slowed down but I figured it was just because I was going above 60. My light did come on, but it usually does when I go on long trips and then comes off.

As for tire pressure, I usually check about once every 2 months and I just had it at the Infiniti dealership because they had to replace my brakes and rotors but not sure if they did any thing to the tires or checked.

Also, I'm considering getting some new tires all around, any suggestions? How often do you guys change or get new tires? I'm also a college student so price will play a part in my decision...

That probably explains why your treads were gone. Going 80 then 60 for "a while" would eat away at the remaining tread pretty quickly. Plus whatever road debris caused your flat would've been long gone by then. Anyway, regarding changing all 4 tires--I recently changed out to 4 Yokohama's all-season for about $600 installed, so just throwing that out there...good luck.

Cool, I just checked their website and they recommend the AS430 so I'm assuming you mean those. How are they quality wise? I will try to do more research into tires as I dont want to run into any tire problems ever again!

I don't know about the AS420's, but the ones I have are the YK520's. I've only had them for about 3 months, but can't complain. Get at least high performance tires and you should be ok, depending on how spirited you drive...
