Car broken into this weekend

So Saturday night I parked in Southy on N street, half a block from broadway. Had a great time at the party, got to my car with 2 girls and my roommate to find my passenger side window shattered and my GPS stolen from the car. Needless to say I'm still furious about the whole thing, especially because they can't come fix it until Monday, it's costing me $250, and it was a $500 GPS unit and whoever did it got away clean. Then to add gas to the fire we get home and find our front door wide open, which was locked up when we left like it always is. Apparently someone came in through a window and left through the door. We think it was some kids because we couldn't find anything missing, just moved around and messed with a bit. So we canvassed the neighbor hood with bats for over an hour but never found the f*ckers. I have never felt like killing someone more than this.

it was a smash and grab because you prob left the GPS on the dash. if they were pros out stealing, they would have just rolled down your windows with their screwdriver.never leave anything in plain site in the car, especially in the city. not even a jacket. i hope things get better for you brotha. keeping rocking.

Sucks. That's one of my biggest fears.

amen...excellent point. if the crooks can not see anything, they are less likely to take a chance and smash your window. i even leave the console cupholder/cointray open to show nothing is being consealed.

i know how you feel, angry as i have been in the past. i know eventually i'll catch someone as they are in the act and they will pay for all the previous break ins.

but sometimes the best offense is a good defense. don't give them a reason to break in.

I totally agree, I just hadn't thought about it that day, pretty distracted at the time. As for catching someone in the act I might leave my car on the street tonight with something valuable on the seat to go fishing, hopefully for whoever broke into my house. Someone's gotta pay

Unhappy Look for a group of 14yr old kids

Knowing Southie. Lived there for a few years. I was more worried about a group of 13-15yr olds than anything else. Something to prove.

That sucks. I'm sorry.

I know it doesn't help much now but it could have been worse. You could have come home to an empty house.

At least you are OK.

I always lock up my iPod and sunglasses in the glove box when I am in a public place. It is definitely annoying to have to put a portable GPS away after every time you use it...but as you can see it is worth it.

It is common for thieves to break into your car, steal what they can, including registration (your address is usually on it), your garage remote or even house keys from your vehicle then burglarize your house. Even if the keys or remote aren't there they are pretty certain there is no one home so they can force entry (not as loud as you think)..

I live in Waltham, and luckily since it's a new car I didn't have anything else to steal in it, no garage remores or keys anyway. Also I know they weren't searching (just smash and grab) because I had 2 $20 bills in the arm rest that would have been clearly visible to anyone that opened it. We are concerned about the house though- a screen was popped out in the front room, they came in, cased the place and left out the front door, apparently not taking anything. I still need to get a Mass driver's license before I can bring my guns up here, so for know if someone decides to break in they'll just get beaten with a softball bat (in self defense of course) and arrested.
