Re: key fob complaint!

I agree. Audi uses an integrated unit where the key folds into the electronic part - nice!

Re: key fob complaint!

This keyfob is far superior to the one I had with my Mustang, it takes some effort top pop the trunk or set off the panic alarm, with the Ford one, I'd sometimes come out and find my trunk lid popped open! This is a much better item!

Re: key fob complaint!

I find it too easy to set off the panic alarm with my keyfob. I've done it at least three times while having my hands full and carrying my keys in my hands.

Wow, mine takes some pushing to set it off, same with the trunk release, maybe mine is an exception!

Re: key fob complaint!

Yup, I have the same problem. If I'm moving around (ie bending over or twisting or whatever), the panic button will often set off the alarm. I've done it 4 or 5 times so far. I guess it helps that I have a bunch of stuff on my keychain, but still my subaru or my wife's audi never had this problem! A bit annoying...but I guess I'll get used to it.

Re: key fob complaint!

Are the key fobs different between '03 and '04?

Re: key fob complaint!

I always keep my car key and keyfob on a seperate ring, they toild me to do that with my Mustang, to minimize wear on the "expensive" key!

Re: key fob complaint!

My wife had a Dodge some years back and same thing with the FOB, way too sensitve. This combined with its excellent range ended up in a few situtations where I accidently popped the trunk, sometimes from in the house. After this happened the nteenth time, I decided to take it apart and sure enough the "button" is really just a rubber cover. To fix it just remove the rubber cover from the button that is too sensitive, close the FOB back up and you'll find the real button underneath is much harder to hit accidently, but still easy enough to use on purpose. I haven't tried this with my G yet, but I've reccomended this practice to others with same problem (I think GM was using same fob for a while) and they reported success too.

Re: key fob complaint!

My '00 Mustang was bad like that, damn I was always finding the trunk popped, that was easier to tell since the 3rd brake light and the trunk light shared the same housing! I don't get what you mean by removing the "rubber cover"! I still haven't had this issue with my G's fob! (damn, that's a dumb looking word, fob!)

Re: key fob complaint!

I don't think so. Our 2000 Maxima key fob seems to operate
from up to 50 yards away. Way better than the G35s

Re: key fob complaint!

Re: key fob complaint!

Mine operates from that far away, been able to recheck my lock from a distance like that, haven't tried the trunk release though! Actually, I think that is too far, especially with the "auto-relock" on the G!

Re: key fob complaint!

If you split the case on the fob, like you are changing the battery, the side without the battery has the electronics. Pry the rubber gasket up and you'll see what I mean. The gasket forms the buttons. With a razor you can cut the button out, or it looks like if you are careful you could cut the panic button down to a lowered thickness which may help prevent accidents, and preseve the integrity of the gasket which seals the circuit board from the elements.

I haven't tried it on this fob, I'm not having problems with it. I find you have to be very deliberate and close to the vehicle for it to work (compared to other cars).
