Someone should try it and see. If the car can't get the speed it should not know how to calculate the miles.

my concern is dealers may very well be aware of that sensor,do you think they would try this to the loaners or dealer cars to keep the mileage down when they sell them. I know the speedometer wouldn't work, but is there a sensor that would stop just the odometer?

Glad you solved your problem and for informing us,that would have driven me nuts.

I dont think there is a sensor that you can take off so that the mileage would stop counting, because if there was, everyone would do that, and if you dont want to have a lot of miles, you can always buy another speedometer with whatever miles you want and put it on, then drive for how long you want, and then when you are selling the car you can put the original one. thats also a way of doing this

If the fuses near the battery are not blown, the only thing i could think of is check the differential, that's where most cars get there speed reading from. The wheel sensors are to detect slip for the abs/vdc/traction control. . Either that is loose / dirty or unplugged.

Un-plugging that cable on my 2004 VW will result in no speed reading and no mileage count Havent tried it on the G yet, cause I don't have a Consult-II to clear the code unlike the VW. There's a nice tool called the Vag-comm works perfect (on vw's) ohwell

The problem was solved, the electrical wire was unplugged next to the rear differential. Thanks for the help though.
