Yesterday I posted a comment about G35 design flaws, and then read many comments about fogging up adding more credance to my own problems. I have just returned home after a snowy drive home in Cleveland Ohio with an outside temp of 16F. I tried all the advice given on these pages and was only successfull at keeping the fogging up under control when I ran the front defog full blast making the car feel like a sauna. Even under these conditions my rear defroster barely kept the rear window clean. I noticed most other cars on the highway seemed to have clear side and rear windows. This is a wonderful car to drive in the summer, much more tricky in the snow, but really disappointed that Nissan seems to have missed some of the details that make a car easy to live with.

 

Just to confirm :
- you did have the FRESH AIR on (or RECIRC off)
- you had the AC on
And you still had fogging problems?
The fogging happened on windscree, front windows, rear windows ...?

I have not had any problem with fogging regardless of temperature and we were down to about 15 F here. However, it was very dry outside.

Yes, I very rarely use recirc as it makes the problem worse, and yes AC was on . Problem much less on dry days, most of my problems are when it is raining or snowing. On my other cars I just set the control to auto and forget messing around.

gribblep, I noticed the same problem last summer. Then after playing around with controls, I was able to defog it in seconds. I can't remember exactly what I did, though.
It be great if someone, who had a similar problem and solved it, could post a response to this thread. I am sure it's just a matter of getting the right setting.

Okay, no one has asked this, but did you have any damp clothing, jacket, shoes, etc in the car? That happened to me once in my last car, had gotten some moisture on my jacket, I had a helluva time defogging the windows. Alos, the rear window defrost should help, do you use that?

Yes, I was pretty damp after scrapping the windows, but thats the same with any car. You are also correct, as last week I had two others in the car after running to the car in a snow storm, but wife in other car with one passenger seemed to have no problems. After the comments I am hearing I am becoming convinced that this is just poor engineering and something I never thought about when purchasing the car

Had the car since May, obviously the winter experience has dampened my initial enthusiasm.

 

I've had my G for 2 winters now. No complaints about winter driving and fogging up here in Edmonton. The rear window defroster actually works better and faster than most cars I've had, mind you, I'm not sure if the tint helps or not.

I had mine since 04/02.

 

I noticed that my G fogs up more then any previous vehicle I have had too. A few things that might help. 1) make sure that your windows are kept very clean. Use a good quality window cleaner. 2) try an anti fog treatment like Fog-X. It won't eliminate fogging but should minimize it. 3) turn your defroster on before the fogging even starts, be proactive. If the weather conditions hint at possible fogging of the windsheild I just put my defroster on low and find a comfy temp. The drawbacks are you use more fuel and lose some HP 'cause the A/C is running. But it's better then driving blind.

Well, for a change, we had a very damp day today here, I was out in rain and some snow, and I had absolutely no trouble with my windows fogging up, there was a hint of it on the windshield when I started the car one time, but it disappeared before I could turn the defrost on! So, guess mine is fine!
