Electric Window Rolls Down Automatically

OK, I blew it and now I need your help. I let a cop go at my sedan with a slim jim last week when I locked my keys in the car. He poceeded to cause a lot of damage. The body shop I brought it to has replaced most of the guts of the window but now the window rolls up and automatically goes down about a third of the way. The body shop things there is some kind of reset. Anybody have any information on this. Thank you very musch!

Ouch! Sounds like a short in the window circuit, either at the switch or at the lock switch.

I'm with pesitlence, I keep that extra key in my wallet for just such an event - or at least call Infinti roadside assistance to open up the car.

Nooooooooooo. guess you got an expensive lesson in not using a slim jim, I agree with these guys, always carry the spare key, or call roadside assistance! There is too much sensitive stuff in the car doors these days to mess with those things!

Bummer. I always make a point to lock the car with the key fob. since the keys are connected to it, I never lock them in the car. I wish the G had a keyless entry pad like my SHO.

Re: Electric Window Rolls Down Automatically

It's a damn good question. I started the car to warm it. Went inside for about 5-10 minutes. Came back outside and the car was locked. Living in New York, I am used to warming the car, I do it every morning. This time though the car was locked. I can only assume that maybe I hit the door lock on the way out, but that seems a little strange. I don't know what happened but it is going to cost me bucks either way.

Soundman, I'm not sure if that function runs thru the BCM, or one of the other computers, but you could try disconnecting the battery to reset them. (negative terminal)
Your only alternative is to visit the dealership. Perhaps he has a quick and inexpensive fix.

After working on windows, there is a reset procedure.

A) Never let anyone mess with opening your car unless they happen to be a professional locksmith. These guys have diagrams of the guts of your car and the proper tools to get in there, plus they'll fix anything they break.

B) Your car came with a wallet key, right? Put it in your wallet.

A lot of locksmiths won't even come down if they find out you have a luxury auto. Especially Vettes and BMW's from what my locksmith buddy tells me. Says they're way too much trouble, and the vehicle owners always get pissed at the charges (even tho it takes special skill to open these models).

Re: Electric Window Rolls Down Automatically

You should have gotten a "valet key" and a wallet key in the package that came with your owners manual, the wallet key will only open the doors, doesn't have a chip, the salesperson should have shown you all this stuff. Here's a pic!
