However, it does NOT make financial sense to do so, especially when you consider blown transmissions, clutches, engines, xtra gas, tickets etc.
You will always lose on a modified car, especially when you part out to sell. If you sell your car modified you limit your audience and still lose on the mods.

If you choose to still (excessively) mod, go for it as long as you are aware it is a losing proposition for the common man.
I 101% agree here as well, it's not a very smart financial move, but it's what I do for fun. Some people go to clubs, some people go to bars, some people go to amusement parts, some people buy video games....I make my cars, MY cars.

My point exactly, once your car is modded, it becomes YOUR car, a touch of your personality reflected through an investment of time and money.

With the economy the way it is, unless you are making 80k + a year or are a kid living at home with your parents, it may not be the best financial decision for alot of people right now.
I say to each their own a lot actually, which is why I didn't tell him he was stupid or anything like that, I just said that I disagreed. MY personal opinion.

I agree, Lucky-G. I didn't see/hear any disrepect with the opinion you offered.

Overall I spend 1500 hours a year in my daily driver, 2005 G35 Sedan (90 minutes a day, 5 days a week, 50 weeks a year). I am modding it because I like to and I see my car as an extension of who I am - plus I want to have fun.

I just sunk $7k into remodelling a bathroom in my house. Sure, it is an investment - but over the next 5 years, I'll be in this particular bathroom maybe 10 - 15 hours. The $10k I am throwing into my car is going to give me, say, 7500 hours of fun, enjoyment - and looking unique. Am I going to sell my car and make money on my mods down the road? Hell no... Is the mod-money basically thrown down the toilet? Hell no as well.

I am having a blast!

How in the hell did this turn into a debate about investing & if it's worth it to mod our rides?
